Jennifer Garner and Jennifer Lopez are reportedly working in “good faith” on how to handle their respective children’s friendship.
After Garner, Lopez and Affleck had an icy reunion at a children’s playground last month, a source told the Daily Mail on Monday that the two actresses are handling their awkward relationship with “respect.”
“They are not best friends and certainly have no intention of going on a girls’ trip together,” a source told the magazine. “But they respect each other and respect that the kids are friends and want the best for everyone involved.”
“They’re friendly, but outside of the kids, their small talk isn’t about Ben or what they’re working on,” the source continued. “They’re both fine with the current state of their relationship.”
Sources claim that the two “do not hate each other” and have “no feud,” but the amount of time they spend together is limited.
“They never know what to do or what not to do when they are in a situation together, because they know that the moment they interact, they will be the focus, and they want the focus to be on the children.”
“Their connection is through a former marriage, not through any kind of friendship. So that’s what it is.”
Representatives for Garner and Lopez did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.
Their uncomfortable relationship became public on December 12, when Affleck and Garner’s child Seraphina and Lopez’s child Emme appeared in a play together.
According to photos obtained by Page Six, Affleck and his first ex-wife arrived at a theater in Los Angeles with their 13-year-old son Samuel.
The singer arrived separately with her manager Benny Medina and her mother Guadalupe.
Many parents gathered outside the theater to chat before the show, but Lopez did not appear to interact with Affleck or Garner, even though they could see each other.
However, Samuel took time apart from his parents to speak with the “On the Floor” hitmaker. The two, known for their close bond, have been photographed smiling and laughing as they talk.
Affleck and Garner, both 53, married in 2005 and announced their divorce in 2015. Since then, the two have maintained a close co-parenting relationship.
After Affleck’s divorce, she got back together with Lopez, 56, in 2021. The two were engaged in 2002.
They married in July 2022, successfully blending their families together. Lopez has 17-year-old twins Emme and Max with ex-husband Marc Anthony. Affleck and Garner share Violet, 19, Seraphina, 16, and Samuel.
However, the “Hustlers” actress filed for divorce from Affleck in August 2024.
In March, a source exclusively told Page Six that the dancer was “furious” over the intimate photos of Affleck and Garner that were leaked at the time.
That same month, another source said Affleck, who is dating John Miller, “would love another chance” with Garner.
Lopez and Affleck most recently reunited to take Samuel shopping after a week of children’s play, but the Grammy nominee and the Juno actress haven’t been photographed together since then.
