Ricky Gervais hosted the Golden Globe Awards five times and wowed Hollywood with his take-no-prisoners approach to jokes poking fun at the entertainment industry.
In his new Netflix stand-up special, Mortality, released on Tuesday, the comedian revealed that he actually told one joke himself, even though none of his material was featured at the awards show. He then went on to share it near the end of the special.
“Like I said, the Golden Globes have never stopped me from making jokes, and that’s absolutely true,” Gervais said. “But I just remembered a joke that I stopped myself because I was a bit bottled up. I guess I was being too cautious. So I took the opportunity to introduce Jason Momoa. So I thought the meta joke was to show my hypocrisy and cowardice. I’m fine with disparaging actors – who’s scared of actors? – but when it comes to the big guys, yeah, I’m not that brave.”
“So I was going to say, ‘I have nothing bad to say about the next presenter because he’s got a dick like a baby’s arm,'” he continued. “And I told my spouse that I was going to do that, and my spouse said, ‘Do you think people would think that’s racist?’ I thought, ‘Why racist?’ “Well, he’s a person of color.” And I said, “No, it has nothing to do with that.” It has something to do with the fact that he’s so big that he probably has a dick like a baby’s arm, right? So I didn’t do it. We had a great follow-up and I’ll tell you all about it. That’s all. What I was going to do: I’m going to go out and say, ‘I can’t say anything bad about the next presenter because he’s got a cock like a baby’s arms — unlike Peter Dinklage, who has arms like a baby’s cock. ”
