Stranger Things co-creator Ross Duffer has revealed the runtime for the final four episodes of the series.
After the first four episodes of Season 5 were released on Nov. 26, “Stranger Things” will rebroadcast three more episodes on Christmas Day, with the series finale scheduled for New Year’s Eve. Episode 5, titled “Shock Jock,” will run for 1 hour and 8 minutes, and Episode 6, “Escape from Camazotz,” will run for 1 hour and 15 minutes, according to Duffer’s Instagram post. Episode 7, titled “The Bridge,” clocks in at 1 hour and 6 minutes. Rounding out the Netflix sci-fi hit perfectly is Episode 8, “Light Side Up,” the longest of the season at 2 hours and 8 minutes.
Contrary to viral posts on social media and a report in Puck News that claimed the overall season length was in the 90 minute to two hour range, the length of the final episodes is closer to the first batch of season five. These rumors are likely influenced by the much talked about season 4 runtime. While the first three seasons consisted primarily of hour-long episodes, the fourth season was expanded to a minimum of 70 minutes, and the final three episodes were all movie length. The season 4 finale, “Piggyback,” lasted a whopping 2 hours and 22 minutes.
Duffer co-created “Stranger Things” with his brother Matt Duffer. The Duffers will executive produce the series along with 21 Laps Entertainment’s Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen through their Upside Down Pictures banner.
