Amy Schumer has opened up about hitting “rock bottom” after confirming her separation from Chris Fischer.
The comedian spoke about his ordeal in a video posted to Instagram on Sunday night while celebrating the last night of Hanukkah with Israeli activist Noah Tishby.
“When things are the worst, that’s when family is the funniest,” she shared in the video.
“When we hit rock bottom, that’s when we laugh the most, and I don’t think it’s just me,” she added. “I think that’s a Jewish characteristic.”
The 44-year-old “slightly pregnant” actress made the comments while reflecting on her love for the Jewish Festival of Lights.
“I love Hanukkah. I’ve always been so excited for it. Every time I light a candle, I feel like I’ve won,” Schumer said. “Jewish pride is the only way to fight anti-Semitism.”
Schumer also shared a cryptic quote about “friends getting married” on her Instagram Story Sunday night.
“My life is filled with the souls of the women I love,” says Hannah Rosenberg.
“The people who make my stomach hurt from laughing so hard, the people who catch my tears, the people who show up at my door to celebrate and grieve, the people who lift me up when I’m down.”
This poetic passage touches on the beauty of “marriage without a wedding.”
“If you have any of these women, remember: Soulmates are a great idea, but look at how beautiful these love stories are. Look at how much they fill you,” the quote concludes.
Schumer confirmed earlier this month that she and Fisher, 45, were ending their seven-year marriage.
“Blah blah blah, Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our seven-year marriage,” she said in a Dec. 12 statement.
“We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son,” she said of their 6-year-old child, Gene.
“We ask that you respect our privacy at this time,” she said.
Schumer denied that their breakup had anything to do with her recent weight loss, saying things ended amicably and “respectfully.”
In the weeks leading up to the announcement, the stand-up star was briefly spotted without her wedding ring as she showed off her dramatic weight loss, sparking speculation of a breakup.
A source told Page Six at the time that there was no chance she and the chef would reconcile.
“They’ve had problems for years. My understanding is that all they’re doing now is working out a conscious separation plan,” the source said.
“There’s no chance that the marriage can be repaired… However, Amy also wants to have as friendly a co-parenting relationship as possible with Chris, so we’re trying to figure out what will work best.”
The estranged couple secretly married in 2018 and gave birth to their only child a year later.
