Once was a Greek, always will be a Greek. And Lea Michele is starting her kids early!
The 39-year-old actress, who currently stars in Broadway’s Chess, took a trip down memory lane on Glee while speaking with PEOPLE earlier this month. Although the Ryan Murphy series ended its six-season run in 2015, Michelle Berry’s performance as Rachel Berry remains one of her most talked about roles, and one that she herself has played repeatedly.
The actress, who shares 5-year-old son Ever Leo and 15-month-old daughter Emery Sol with husband Zandy Reich, tells PEOPLE that the last time she watched the series was when she showed her son Ever the season 6 first episode, “Let It Go.”

According to Michele, this cover of the hit song was coincidentally the first performed by Michele’s mother, Idina Menzel, who starred in the movie Glee, and was the perfect introduction for her Frozen-obsessed son.
Michele said her 5-year-old daughter was already “absolutely obsessed” with the 2013 Disney animated film when she showed her the clip.
“He started finding out that mom was a singer, so he wanted me to sing for him,” she says.
Ever, who attended Michelle’s production of “Funny Girl” on Broadway, knows what her mother does for a living, but “I didn’t understand that it was a TV show,” she says.
Michele’s son understands the concept of acting, she says. For example, the mother-of-two explains that she knows that Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande played the roles of Elphaba and Glinda in the film version of Wicked.

However, Eber revealed that despite her love for Frozen, she didn’t know that Michelle’s longtime best friend (and former Glee co-star) Jonathan Groff provided the voice for one of the film’s main characters.
“We haven’t told him that Uncle Jonathan is Kristoff,” Michele tells PEOPLE, adding, “I want to keep that as long as possible.”
Glee is still a part of Michelle’s work life.
During her solo tours, she says she stops somewhere at each show to poll the audience about their favorite cover from that show. Most recently, her “Straight from Carnegie Hall” spring tour attracted many Rachel Berry fans.
“It’s a really special moment for me because it brings back so many memories of songs that we performed on the show and things that we may not remember but that may have resonated with our fans,” Michelle says. “For me, it’s always a great moment of connection with the fans and takes me down a great memory lane.”

Earlier this year, Michelle opened up a little more about her children’s love of music, and her love for Groff, 40.
“Ever and Emery love him very much,” Michelle told PEOPLE, adding that Groff “has a special relationship with both of my children.”
“A really special moment recently was when I took my son to see a Broadway show (‘Just in Time’) and during the show Jonathan came up to Ever and sang a song to my son,” the proud mom continued. “Ever was smiling from ear to ear.”
The Glee alum added that some songs from the Bobby Darin biographical musical are also in the family’s music rotation. “We’re singing ‘Somewhere Beyond the Sea’ and ‘Splash Splash’ every night at home now,” Michelle said.
