Kevin Spacey clarified in a recent interview that he is not homeless, revealing that he lives in hotels and Airbnbs.
“It’s not usually my job to correct the media,” the “Usual Suspects” star shared in an Instagram video on Sunday.
“If that were the case, I wouldn’t have much time for anything else, but in light of recent articles alleging that I am homeless, I feel the need to respond.”
“Not to the press, but to the thousands of people who have offered me a place to stay or just asked if I’m OK over the last few days,” Spacey, 66, said.
“And to all of you, let me just say I’m truly touched by your generosity, all the way through,” he continued. “But I think it would be disingenuous for you to believe that I am truly homeless in the colloquial sense.”
Spacey brought up a recent interview with Telegraph reporter Mick Brown published on Wednesday.
“In a conversation with Mick Brown, who is a wonderful journalist, I said that I basically live in hotels and Airbnbs and go wherever the work is,” the actor said.
“Just like when I started this business. I’ve been working pretty much non-stop for the past year, so I have a lot to be grateful for.”
Spacey noted that there are “a lot” of people who are “living on the streets,” “in cars,” or in “terrible financial situations,” but he’s not in the same situation.
“And my heart goes out to them,” he said. “But it’s clear from the article itself that I’m not one of them, and I wasn’t trying to say that I was one of them.”
Spacey’s clarification came after the outlet published an article with the headline, “Kevin Spacey interview: Homeless, canceled, hunkered down in Cyprus.”
In an interview with the same media, the actor said that he is staying in hotels and Airbnb.
“Literally, I don’t have a home. That’s what I’m trying to explain,” he said.
The American Beauty star added that her financial situation was “not great” after the sexual assault scandal, in which she denied any wrongdoing and was acquitted in court.
“The costs over the last seven years have been astronomical,” Spacey said.
The “1780” star said he felt as if he was traveling “back to where I started and where the work is.”
“Everything is stored in storage. We hope that if the situation continues to improve, we will be able to decide where to settle again one day,” he said.
