Matthew McConaughey has revealed that his erotic dreams ultimately led to the love of his life with wife Camila Alves.
“In my mid-30s, I was looking for the love of my life, my best friend, and my future mother,” the “Dallas Buyers Club” star wrote in her “Lyrics of Living” newsletter on Friday, according to Us Weekly.
“I was looking for more, I was looking for one person, and I was looking for her,” he continued, adding, “And I had a wet dream.”
The 56-year-old Magic Mike actor has revealed that in a dream he saw an older version of himself sitting in a rocking chair on his balcony. There were 22 women, 22 cars and 88 children.
When gathered to celebrate his 88th birthday, McConaughey recalled that he had 88 children, each representing a year of his life, but he was not married to any of the 22 women.
“Every woman was calm and content,” he wrote, according to the paper. “Every child was smiling and laughing and in good health. We all knew each other very well.”
“My mother and I each shared idyllic memories of our children roosting on my lap,” the “Interstellar” star wrote.
“We hugged, kissed, laughed and joked and cried tears of happiness,” he continued.
“They all gathered around me on the porch for family photos and looked toward the big box camera on a tripod at the top of the driveway. Three! Two! One! And then I came.”
The Oscar winner said the “beautiful dream” reminded him that his goal in life was to become a father, but it also helped him realize that it’s okay to not take drastic action.
“A red light vision of being single for the rest of my life came to me in a green light wet dream,” he wrote.
“It was a spiritual sign, a message to me to stop deliberately trying to find the perfect woman for me and surrender to the natural process of choice: I will find her or she will find me.”
He further added, “So I stopped looking for her.”
He writes that his wife, Camila Alves, 42, came into his life after he had given up on a dedicated search.
“Three months later, I met Camila,” he revealed. “Twenty years later, she’s still the only woman I’ve ever wanted to date, sleep with, or wake up next to.”
The longtime couple was first spotted dating in 2006 after meeting at Hyde nightclub in West Hollywood.
They welcomed son Levi in 2008, daughter Vida in 2010, and son Livingston in 2012, and married the same year.
In September, McConaughey revealed that it was actually his eldest son, then 4, who convinced the “How to Drop a Guy in 10 Days” star to marry Alves.
McConaughey said on an episode of Chris Williamson’s podcast Modern Wisdom that Levi wondered why his mother and father didn’t share a last name. “In my head I was like, ‘You’re an asshole, dude,'” the actor recalled.
“I was sitting there and he said, ‘That’s a great question, but I mean, we’re not married. When we get married, we change our names.’
McConaughey said his son asked if he was “afraid” to make a commitment and admitted he was too.
McConaughey said he ultimately married Alves after seeking advice from pastors and other “elders” who had been “married for decades.”
