Zach Bryan has revealed he has been sober for two months after struggling with his mental health.
The singer took to Instagram late Tuesday night to reflect on a 20-day motorcycle trip that made her think, “I really need help.”
“Being in the military for 10 years and then being exposed to a spotlight that I didn’t fully understand the scope of, had a subconscious effect on me as a person,” he said, reflecting on his time in the Navy.
“I wasn’t happy, but I was also afraid to show weakness, because that’s not who I am and that’s not how I was raised. The motto was to move forward and never settle down.”
Brian, 29, explained that he was “stuck from constant dissatisfaction and started reaching for alcohol all the time, not just for the taste, but because there was a consistent black hole inside of him and he always needed to fill that void.”
He also said he had “suffered a shocking panic attack” while dealing with “lies and disclosures of personal information on the internet” and also helping two friends with medical issues and touring.
“The anxiety I was feeling was paralyzing. I thought I could get through anything because I was successful, had the money I always wanted, and had great friends,” he continued, revealing that he began working with a therapist to overcome his “toxic relationship with alcohol” and how to deal with “major life changes.”
The “Pink Skies” singer then revealed that she has “not touched” alcohol in almost two months due to her own “personal clarity.”
“I needed to look at the world objectively. My family supported me every step of the way. Talking about the future, someday having children, my health and Sammy’s happiness made me prioritize not only myself but my entire family,” he added, without naming his new girlfriend Samantha Leonard.
He went on to note that he feels “great”, “content” and “complete” right now, adding that he doesn’t need anything to survive anymore.
“If you or your friends are too tough, too scared, too stubborn to reach out, please know that the toughest idiots on the planet did and didn’t do that,” he wrote.
“I don’t believe in absolutes. Maybe someday I’ll be able to control my habits, but for now I just want to say that it’s okay to be weak and need help sometimes. Hurry up, everyone! I hope this helps someone.”
In the caption of the post, which included a photo of Brian playing the piano with a cigarette in his mouth, he clarified: “This is no more than you.”
“I am aware that I am one of the luckiest people alive, and I pray that people do not take my blessings for granted,” he continued.
“I wanted to share this because I feel like a lot of people go through mental struggles from time to time and feel alone in it, and that there are a lot of people suffering in silence because of that.
“I hope this helps someone who is unlucky and is struggling to find the words,” he concluded.
In recent months, Brian has made headlines for a number of controversial incidents.
In 2024, the country star divorced podcaster Brianna “Chicken Fry” LaPaglia after just over a year. After their breakup, she accused him of emotional abuse.
And in September 2025, Brian was caught trying to climb a fence and fight fellow country musician Gavin Adcock.
