Ali Larter and her husband Hayes MacArthur have been together for more than 15 years.
The Landman actress and MacArthur, who starred in Life As We Know It and How I Met Your Mother, first met on the set of Homo Erectus in 2005 and married four years later.
Since then, the couple has had two children, son Theodore Hayes in 2010 and daughter Vivian Margaret in 2015.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the family took a road trip north, driving through the town of Sun Valley, Idaho. What was supposed to be a two-month adventure ended up being their new home.
“People are looking out for each other,” Larter told RUE Magazine in September 2024. “There is a real sense of community here and we are thrilled to be a part of it.”
So, who is Ali Larter’s husband? Here’s everything you need to know about comedian Hayes MacArthur’s relationship with the actress.

MacArthur was born on April 16, 1977 in Chicago.
The actor is proud of his Illinois upbringing, and revealed on Instagram that while raising his children in Los Angeles and Idaho, he instilled in them a deep pride in Chicago.
In 2019, he shared a photo of his daughter in matching wetsuits in front of a California beach and captioned it, “Imagine the confusion when I told her I was really from Chicago.”
MacArthur also appears to have raised his children to be loyal to the Chicago team, sharing a snap on Instagram in 2019 of him holding his children in his arms and wearing Cubs gear.

After graduating from Bowdoin College in 1999, MacArthur moved to Los Angeles to pursue comedy. He studied with the legendary comedy troupe The Groundlings, whose alumni include Will Ferrell, Lisa Kudrow, and Kristen Wiig.
MacArthur befriended late-night show host Seth Meyers after living with his comedian brother Josh Meyers and actor Ike Barinholtz. During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers in 2016, MacArthur joked that the house they lived in was called Camp Hollywood.
“(Guantanamo Bay) was what you would call a camp. It was a horrible place,” he said, recalling the rat infestation the comedians dealt with when they lived there.

The MacArthurs’ ties to Hollywood go back generations.
In a series of Instagram posts supporting the SAG-AFTRA strike, MacArthur paid tribute to his grandmother Shirley, whom he credited as the woman who “put Coca-Cola on the map,” and revealed her Old Hollywood connections.
MacArthur’s younger brother, Scott MacArthur, is also an actor, writer, and producer, best known for his roles on Running Points, No Hard Feelings, and Fox’s The Mick.

Larter and MacArthur are the proud parents of two children. Their son Teddy was born on December 20, 2010.
“Feeling life growing inside me keeps me grounded every day and allows me to really think about what’s important in life,” Larter told PEOPLE during her pregnancy. “It’s really about the health of you and your family.”
My daughter Vivian was born on January 15, 2015. Larter said that after becoming a mother of two children, she found it more difficult to balance the different roles in her life.
“I’m trying to find balance and somehow find time for my husband, work, and myself,” she told PEOPLE in May 2015.
They moved their family from Los Angeles to Idaho

The couple made a big decision for their family during the coronavirus pandemic.
With their two children and their Bernese mountain dog, Nala, they packed up their house in Los Angeles and moved to a small town in Idaho. Larter told RUE Magazine in September 2024 that the move came after a family road trip north.
“We saw it as an opportunity for a family adventure and started driving north,” she said.
The family drove to Sun Valley, Idaho, and was immediately captivated by its “quiet grandeur.” From that point on, the couple decided this was the place to call home.
Although they no longer live in Hollywood, the center of their careers, they don’t suffer from long commutes.
“Actors are natural nomads and travel is part of our DNA,” MacArthur said.
They found the peace they were looking for in Idaho. MacArthur joked that their small town forced them to live a slow life.
“Mountains have the effect of grounding you and slowing you down, especially when you’re stuck in traffic with a herd of elk blocking the road,” he says.
