Netflix is gearing up for a sequel to the hit action comedy “Mission: Cross,” which will bring back stars Hwang Jung-min and Yeom Jeong-ah for another high-stakes adventure.
Screenwriter and director Lee Myung-hoon will return to the helm of “Mission: Cross 2,” which centers on a national treasure robbery operation. The original film topped Netflix’s Global Top 10 Movies (Non-English) chart within three days of its release in 2024 and was in the top 10 in 43 countries in its second week.
Hwang will reprise his role as Kang-moo, a former special forces member who returns to duty following the president’s mission to recover a stolen national treasure. Yam returns as Mi-sung, a former silver medalist in shooting at the Asian Games turned detective, but is demoted to a local police station by the sea and has to join her husband for a new mission.
The ensemble cast also includes some new additions. Yoon Kyung-ho (“Trauma Code: Heroes on Call”) plays the role of Jung In-hak, the leader of a shadowy organization that targets cultural properties. Im Sung Jae (“Hellbound” Season 2) plays the role of Doo Chil, a black market dealer. Cha In-pyo (“What happened to Mr. Cha?”) as the president. Kim Kook Hee (“Sweet Home”) will play the role of the President’s Chief of Staff. Jung Man-sik, Cha Rae-hyun, and Lee Ho-chul round out the cast.
Netflix has also set the premiere of Jeon Do-young’s first Netflix series, the mystery thriller series “The Price of Confession,” on December 5th. This psychological thriller is about Yoon-soo, a woman accused of murdering her husband, and Mo-eun, a mysterious woman she encounters in prison.
Jung (“Kill Bok-soon,” “Romance Express”) plays Yoon-soo, whose unusual behavior, such as asking for coffee and smiling during police interrogations, raises questions about his guilt or innocence. Kim Go-eun (“You and All Others,” “Little Women”) plays Mo-eun, a woman feared as a witch and psychopath by the other inmates who offers to confess to the murder of Yun-soo’s husband in exchange for an unspecified act.
Park Hye-soo (“Squid Game”) will play the role of prosecutor Baek Dong-hoon, and Jin Sung-gyu (“Emma”) will play the role of Yoon-soo’s lawyer Jang Jung-gu. The series will be directed by Lee Jeong Hyo, whose credits include “Crash Landing on You” and “Duna!”
Meanwhile, Netflix Japan has announced the release dates of two December titles: dance film 10Dance and unscripted date series Badly in Love.
“10 Dance,” which will be released on December 18th, is based on a manga by Inouesato about two competitive dancers, both named Shinya. Ryoma Takeuchi will make his first appearance in a Netflix movie as Shinya Suzuki, a Japanese Latin dance champion, while Keita Machida will star as Shinya Sugiki, a Japanese ballroom dance champion and second-ranked dancer in the world. Reuniting on screen for the first time in nearly eight years, the pair navigate an unfolding romance as Sugiki challenges Suzuki to a 10-dance competition that combines Latin and ballroom styles.
Directed by Keishi Otomo, director of the “Rurouni Kenshin” series and “Densetsu to Chou”, this work was awarded the “This BL is amazing! 2019” award for the original manga.
Badly in Love, which starts on December 9th, brings together 11 former juvenile delinquents for a 14-day dating experiment set up at the Badly in Love Academy. The unscripted series ends with a graduation ceremony in which participants must confess their feelings to a love interest of their choice. The series is produced by Megumi, a self-proclaimed former delinquent who developed the project to counter modern dating culture’s tendency to overthink and emotionally guard.
Both titles, along with the upcoming “The Boyfriend” Season 2, will round out 2025 for Netflix Japan.
