Cynthia Erivo put her body art on full display at the Singapore premiere of Wicked: For Good on Thursday, wearing a dramatic black Vivienne Westwood Couture dress with sheer cut-out panels and showing off her flower tassel tattoo on her lower back.
The strapless corset design is embroidered with black roses and adorned with a matching choker and Tiffany earrings.
Westwood’s design team sewed a black witch’s hat on the inside of the corset as a homage to Erivo’s character, Elphaba, and a sneaky nod to Oz on the inside of the dress.
At the film’s Brazilian premiere last week, the 38-year-old actress wore a custom Jean Paul Gaultier crop top by Durand Lantinck and sported a tattoo of three hearts on her sternum. She and co-star Ariana Grande each have impressive ink collections, including matching tattoos that read “For Good” on their palms.
The London-born star has been working closely with stylist Jason Bolden to create a darker, more sophisticated aesthetic to promote the sequel.
The pair pivoted from the Elphaba green that dominated the press tour for the previous film, instead opting for an all-black ensemble that reflected the evolution of their characters.
“I think fashion is an art and another form of expression,” Erivo tells GQ UK in a new interview for the magazine’s Men of the Year issue. “I think if you don’t use it wisely, it will be wasted.”
she continued. “I like being able to express myself through the clothes I wear and the jewelry I wear. I actually think it’s an inner expression turned outward. I don’t believe in taking off the last thing. I believe you can wear as much as you want.”
The ‘Wicked: For Good’ press tour will continue until its final stop in New York City on November 17th, ahead of the film’s November 21st wide release date.
