When co-star Emilia Perez walked down the aisle, Carla Sofia Gascón had a prior appointment.
After Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s dream wedding in California on September 27, Gascón, 53, recently told reporters in Spanish at the Los40 Music Awards that he missed their wedding “because of work.”
Her busy schedule wasn’t the only reason. Gascón said it would have been an expensive trip for her to attend the couple’s ceremony.
“I don’t go to my family’s weddings because it’s expensive,” she continued. “Imagine if I had to pay for Selena’s house I would go broke.”
Gascón’s comments come nine months after he was embroiled in an alleged feud with Gomez, 33, after a post resurfaced in which he made negative comments about his co-star while discussing an alleged feud between Gomez and Hailey Bieber, wife of ex-girlfriend Justin Bieber.
“She is a rich rat playing the role of a poor man and will never stop bothering her ex-boyfriend and his wife in any way she can,” Gascón wrote from her since-deactivated Twitter account, according to the Latin Times.

Gascón insisted he never insulted Gomez on social media after several of Gomez’s controversial posts resurfaced, including some that sparked allegations of racism and homophobia.
“I never said anything about my colleagues,” she told CNN Spanish at the time. “I would never call her that.”

Gascón went on to say that people are “devoted to searching and compiling all the things I said back then, most of which are false and don’t even recognize that I wrote them. And having put it all together, it seems like she’s a very bad person, and they’re going to remove her just when she can do the most damage, which is during the voting period.”
Gomez said that while “some of the magic is gone” from the Oscar-winning Netflix film, which also starred Zoe Saldaña, she wouldn’t trade the experience for the chance.
“I choose to remain proud of what I’ve done. I’m just grateful,” she said during a panel discussion at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. “I live my life without regrets, so I would like to do this movie as many times as possible if I could.”
Emilia Perez was nominated for 13 Oscars earlier this year, including one for Gascón’s signature performance. Saldaña, 47, won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress and the song “El mal” won Best Original Song.
