She works “9 to 5,” but also a little after that.
Dolly Parton has recently experienced health issues that have caused concern, but the singer has insisted she has no plans to slow down.
“People say, ‘Well, you’re going to be 80 years old.’ Well, so what?” Parton, 79, told People magazine. “Look at what I’ve done in 80 years. It feels like we’re just getting started.
“I know it sounds silly, but as long as my health doesn’t deteriorate, things seem to be fine for now…” Parton continued. “I think there’s a lot to be said about age. If you allow yourself to get older, you’ll get older. I say, ‘There’s no time to get older!’ I don’t have time to think about that. That’s not what I think about.”
In September, the “Jolene” singer postponed her stay in Las Vegas, citing “health issues.”
Parton announced the news on Instagram, sharing that she had to undergo “several procedures” under doctor’s orders.
The following month, Parton’s sister Frieda asked the public to pray for her famous brother’s health.
“Last night I spent the whole night praying for my sister Dolly. As many of you know, she hasn’t been feeling well lately,” Frida posted on Facebook, along with a photo of Dolly.
“I truly believe in the power of prayer, and I’ve started asking people around the world who loved her to become prayer warriors and pray with me.”
Frida continued, “She’s strong and she’s loved. And with all the prayers said for her, I know in my heart she’s going to be okay. Godspeed my sissy Dolly. We all love you!”
She later clarified her comments, explaining, “I didn’t mean to scare anyone or make it sound serious when I ask for prayers for Dolly. She felt a little bad.”
The “Steel Magnolias” star posted a video of herself and poked fun at the situation, captioning the Instagram clip, “I’m not dead yet!”
In the video, Parton explained that she wanted to address her medical issues head-on because “everyone thinks they’re sicker than I am.”
“Do I look bad to you? I work hard here,” she continued. “I just wanted to put your minds at ease. I know you were really concerned and I appreciate it. Thank you for your prayers.”
The Grammy winner explained that he was just fighting himself.
“I’m not trying to outdo anyone but me. I just always want to be the best version of myself and strive to improve every day,” she said. “It wasn’t just about getting rich, it was about being successful at what you love. Dreams and hopes can come true without a lot of effort.”
