Sean “Diddy” Combs doesn’t seem to be making a good first impression at Fort Dix Federal Correctional Institute in New Jersey.
Within days of being arrested on suspicion of consuming homemade alcohol at the low-security prison he was transferred to late last month, he found himself in trouble for allegedly taking part in a prohibited three-way phone call.
CBS News reported Monday that the call in question took place on Nov. 3, just four days after the rapper was transferred from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, to a new facility.
Combs, 56, called the unnamed woman to discuss arranging weekend visitors and suggested she bring cash for “200 bachelors,” according to jail documents. (Prison regulations prohibit bringing in any currency other than coins for vending machines.)
After that part of the conversation was over, the music mogul said he needed to speak to someone described as a “digital person” regarding the blog.
When the woman asked if she should add the person to the call, the man said yes.
Combs later told authorities that the woman was his attorney and that the man who made the call was his legal and public affairs director. Combs said the purpose of the call was to discuss publishing an unspecified statement to the New York Times, but Combs denied discussing the blog.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Prisons, “third-party or three-way calls are not permitted.”
But Mr. Combs claimed that no one informed him about it and that he did not receive a prison admission and orientation handbook.
According to CBS News, authorities recommended revocation of telephone privileges for 90 days and retail privileges for 90 days for this violation. It is unclear whether the recommended penalties were implemented.
“This is a serious crime that ignored the rules,” said a source close to the investigation.
But Combs spokeswoman Judah Engelmayer argued that the “procedural summons” were not “improper” because they were “protected by attorney-client privilege.”
In a statement to Page Six, he said, “Sean is focused on his own mental and physical health while continuing to uplift those around him. He works in the chapel’s library and has resumed free gaming classes with Diddy to guide and motivate other residents.”
“His only priority is to prepare to return home and be the father, leader and source of inspiration his family deserves.”
Shortly after entering Fort Dix, TMZ reported that Combs was arrested after allegedly drinking a mixture of Fanta soda, sugar and apples. The inmates ferment it to produce an alcoholic substance.
The Bad Boy Records founder’s family, who maintain social media accounts while he is incarcerated, denied the “rumors” via X as “completely false.”
“Comms is in his first week at FCI Fort Dix and is focused on adjusting, improving himself and doing better each day,” Engelmayer said.
“As with any prominent person in a new environment, there will be many rumors and exaggerated stories during their stay there, most of which are untrue.”
He went on to appeal to the public to “give him the benefit of the doubt” and “give him the privacy to focus on his personal growth with grace and purpose.”
Combs is serving a 50-month sentence for two counts of transportation for the purpose of prostitution.
He is scheduled to be released in May 2028.
