All about Daniel Jones’ parents, Steve Jones and Becca Jones

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones’ family is all about sports.

Born May 27, 1997 to parents Becca Jones and Steve Jones, the football star grew up as one of four children. The Jones brothers were not allowed to watch much television or play video games, so the crew naturally turned to sports.

“Daniel learned a lot about his competitive nature from his brothers and sisters,” Becca told The Athletic in February 2019. “It was a healthy sense of competition and I think they both inspired each other.”

In addition to attending each other’s games over the years, Daniel’s brothers have continued to show support for each other, including when Daniel was drafted into the NFL by the New York Giants in April 2019. The trio sent Daniel a heartfelt congratulatory video celebrating his accomplishment.

Becca and Steve have four children, all of whom are college-level athletes.

All four children went on to play sports in college. Daniel and Lucy attended Duke University, where the former played football and the latter played soccer. Meanwhile, Becca and Bates went to their mother’s alma mater, Davidson, where they played field hockey and basketball, respectively.

“I grew up surrounded by all kinds of sports in my family, so it was really fun,” Danielle told the Fayetteville Observer in August 2017. “Basically, it meant we always had someone to throw the football with and play one-on-one.”

They raised their children in North Carolina

Becca and Steve raised their four children in Charlotte, North Carolina. All four children attended Charlotte Latin School, a college preparatory school, where Daniel played on the varsity football team for three years.

“Charlotte is definitely a special place for me,” he told the Charlotte Observer in October 2021. “This is where I grew up. I really lived my whole life in North Carolina until a few years ago when I moved here. It was a great place to grow up and play different sports.”

Becca and Steve made their kids’ games a family event

With four children playing sports, the Jones family was always on the move. All the children participated in each other’s games and had a productive day.

“It was always fun,” Becca told The Athletic in February 2019. “I never felt like I had to do it or it was a burden. Saturdays were the best because everything was packed into one day before school sports started.”

she continued. “We all went to each other’s games and cheered on each other, then got back in the car and went on to the next thing. That’s exactly what we did. We felt there was a lot of joy in doing it.”

Becca worked as a translator and tutor

According to LinkedIn, Becca graduated from Davidson College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in political science. In 2008, she earned a second bachelor’s degree in Spanish language and literature from Queen’s University in Charlotte.

After graduation, Becca worked as an interpreter at the Charlotte Community Health Clinic and then as a translator and tutor at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, where she served until 2018.

Steve thought Daniel might pursue basketball rather than football.

Daniel started playing basketball at the age of five, but decided to focus on football until he went to college. Daniel, a self-described “late bloomer,” was 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighed 148 pounds. When Steve was in high school, he told his father he wanted to be a college quarterback, but Steve was hesitant.

“I watch what quarterbacks do and the decisions they make. A lot of them could make better decisions, and so would I,” Steve recalled his son responding, The Athletic reported. “I think we can win if we do that.”

Daniel then grew in size, growing to over 6 feet tall and weighing over 220 pounds. — and played quarterback at Duke University before turning pro.

Becca and Steve are rooting for their son’s NFL career

When Daniel was drafted by the Giants in 2019, his parents were eager to watch their son play his first NFL game.

“I can’t wait…I can’t wait to see him get on the field,” Becca told the New York Post in August 2019.
