Adam Sandler will receive the Chairman’s Award at the Palm Springs International Film Awards on January 3rd at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The awards ceremony will be held on the second night of the annual Desert Film Festival, which runs from January 2nd to January 11th.
Sandler will receive the award for his performance in Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly, starring George Clooney and Laura Dern. Additional cast members for “Jay Kelly” include Emily Mortimer, Billy Crudup, Riley Keough, Grace Edwards, Stacey Keach, Patrick Wilson, Eve Hewson, Josh Hamilton, Alba Rohrwacher, Nicole Leckie, Thaddea Graham, Lewis Partridge, Jamie Demetriou and Patsy Phelan.
“Adam Sandler gave the most emotional performance of his career in Jay Kelly,” festival president Nahattar Singh Chandy said in a statement. “This is a performance that underscores his status as one of the most versatile and respected actors of his generation. We are proud to award Adam this year’s Chairman’s Award, a singular talent whose work continues to surprise and inspire.”
“Jay Kelly” tells the story of famed film actor Jay Kelly (Clooney), who, along with his devoted manager Ron, played by Sandler, embarks on a journey of self-discovery and is forced to confront both his past and present. While traveling through Europe, the two begin to think about their personal lives, relationships, and the legacy they have left behind.
Sandler will join previously announced winners Renate Reinve, Stellan Skarsgård, Inga Ybsdotter Lilleas and Elle Fanning to receive this year’s International Star Award at the ceremony for her work on Neon’s Sentimental Value.
Last year’s Chairman’s Award went to Timothée Chalamet, who also won the Oscar for Best Actor. Previous winners include Amy Adams, George Clooney, Viola Davis, Billie Eilish, Finneas O’Connell, Tom Hanks, Jennifer Hudson, Nicole Kidman, Regina King, Gary Oldman and Reese Witherspoon.
