After his breakup with Lily Allen, David Harbor looked back on his life since turning 50, including the “mistakes” he’s made.
The Stranger Things star, who has been making headlines for seemingly mentioning their breakup on his new album, said if given a choice, he would “change everything or nothing.”
“You either fully embrace your path, or you understand that even the pain and failures and mistakes are all part of the journey, and that in it all there is truth and growth and wisdom and deeper empathy and connection,” he told Esquire UK in an interview published on Saturday.
“It’s about incorporating your life into something that you can give to other people so that they can get a cathartic response to their own life,” he continued. “If you’ve never experienced anything, what can you really offer? If I were to change anything, I’d change everything and just make my life happy and stupid and whatever I want. Then I wouldn’t be an artist anymore. And that would be the worst.”
The actor also said he will focus on telling rich and complex stories in the future, but also said he has personal goals.
“Of course, there are personal things I want to do, people I want to love, people I want to be kind to and nurture, things like that,” he said.
Allen, 40, filed for divorce from Haber in September after four years of marriage. In her new album West End Girl, she hinted that the actor was a “sex addict” who broke the rules of open marriage.
She recalled how she discovered a stash of sex toys, lube and “hundreds” of condoms, and accused him of leading a “double life” in his “P-sy Palace”.
In “Tennis”, she portrayed that she was at odds with her husband over text messages with a woman named Madeline, wanting to know “if it was just sex or if there were feelings.”
The woman who allegedly had an affair with Harbor was later identified as Natalie Tippett, a costume designer who worked with Harbor on the 2021 Netflix film We Have a Ghost, which was filmed in New Orleans.
Tippett confirmed to the Daily Mail that she had heard Allen’s new song.
“But I have a family and I have things to protect. I have a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter and I understand that this situation is happening,” the single mother said.
“It’s a little scary for me,” she added.
Allen lashed out at her estranged husband again on Halloween by dressing up as Madeline from the popular children’s book series.
