Lantica Studio endorses José María Cabral’s next picture “Gut Feelings”

This is his first foray into dark comedy. Dominican director José María Cabral, who has represented his country at the Oscars three times with “Checkmate,” “The Woodpecker,” and “The Projectionist,” will begin filming “Come mierda” at L’Antica Studios, with Vice President of Production Rafael Elías Muñoz serving as executive producer.

Coach Cabral said: “A director friend of mine said to me, ‘You’re always making your first movie,’ and even though I’ve directed a lot of projects, I like watching this dark comedy as if it were my first time. It’s a genre I’ve never explored, but I’m really excited because it allows me to tackle serious themes through absurdity and humor.”

The story takes place in a wealthy family whose sole purpose is to keep little Isabella alive. She lives on a strict diet, watched over by her uncontrollable mother Veronica as if it were the only thing holding her together. Her father, Raul, was once a promising biotechnologist, but now he pours terror into strange homemade treatments that no one trusts.

A young nanny, Abi, is the only one who can make the sickly girl smile. Raul then discovers a strange microbial “cure” that seems to cure Isabella. Despite all the adversity, it worked. And Abi suddenly finds herself at the center of her family’s fragile new hope. But miracles come at a price. As obsessions grow and loyalties shift, the house begins to crack from within, pushing everyone to their limits.

“‘Got Feeling’ is about class, power, and the invisible labor that underpins our society, a theme that is rooted in Dominican families but feels universal. We believe that this story, with its mixture of discomfort and laughter, has the potential to resonate internationally,” said director Cabral, who will begin filming on October 23rd, primarily in L’Antica Studios and around Santo Domingo.

The cast is led by Spanish actor Ferre Martínez, known for his roles in such notable Spanish titles as Alejandro Amenábar’s Thesis and Open Your Eyes, Pedro Almodovar’s Bad Education, and the Netflix hit Alpha Male. He will be joined by Dominican talents Cindy Galan, Lizbeth Santos, Isabel Spencer and Frank Peroso.

The project features Sara Pérez Báez as line producer, Luis Enrique Carrion as cinematographer, and a screenplay by Miguel Yarlu and Natalia Peralta based on Cabral’s own original ideas.

Elias Muñoz said: “We continue to be inspired by José María’s fearless storytelling. With ‘Gut Feelings,’ he once again delivers a bold and original vision with deep human and social resonance. We are proud to continue to support his vision.”

L’Antica Studio has previously supported “Hotel Coppélia” and the Miami Film Festival Audience Award winner “Parsley” (“Peresil”). The former was picked up by HBO Max and Sony Pictures Latin America.

A key force behind the rise of local film production in the Caribbean, L’Antica Studios has steadily produced two to three original films per year for more than a decade. As a leading provider of studio and production services in the Caribbean and Latin America, Lantica has hosted productions from major studios such as Netflix, Amazon, NBCUniversal, Paramount, HBO, and Lionsgate.

The studio also operates the country’s vast horizon water tank facilities. Formerly known as Pinewood Dominican Republic Studios, it was renamed Lantica Studios in May 2024 after Pinewood Studios sold a minority stake to Dominican-owned Lantica Media.
