The streamer has added 11 new cast members to the series, which was first announced in February starring Omar Sy. The new cast members are:
Sacha Dhawan (The Great, Doctor Who), Ross McCall (Silo, Mission: Impossible), Pip Torrence (The Crown, Succession) , Sam Wolfe (We Were the Lucky Ones, Neuromancer), Michael Zananili (Once Upon a Time in Gaza, Jaffa Orange), Riyad Suliman (Ray Me, Palestine 36), Muhanad Ben Amor (Andor, Believe Me), Aaron Heffernan (Brassic, Femme), Jojo Macari (The Dying) Theo Ogundipe (Mickey 17, Top Boy), Emma Appleton (All I Know About Love, The Witcher).
In addition to Sy, the new cast joins a cast that already includes Boyd Holbrook, Natalie Dormer, Walid Zuaiter, Mae Karamawy, and Ed Speleers. Netflix commissioned an eight-episode first season.
The official logline for the series reads, “In this action-packed thriller, a mercenary (Sy) embarks on a dangerous mission to rescue hostages in Libya. Caught between opposing factions and a ruthless killer, he must make life-or-death choices while facing deep emotional wounds. The series explores the trauma, betrayal, and moral conflict of these cornered characters.”
Glenn Mazzara is the writer, executive producer, and showrunner of the Extraction series. Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstott, Scott Nemeth and Chris Castaldi will serve as executive producers for AGBO, with Sam Hargrave, Eric Gitter and Peter Schwerin also serving as executive producers.
The first “Extraction” movie starring Chris Hemsworth was released on Netflix in 2020. Hemsworth returned for the sequel in 2023. The movie is based on Ande Parks’ graphic novel Ciudad. Joe Russo wrote the screenplay for both films and produced them with Anthony, Gitter, and Schwerin. Hargrave directed both films, and AGBO produced them.
