After Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau were photographed kissing in California over the weekend, a source told People that Trudeau had been secretly pursuing Perry for several months. Perry said she wasn’t interested in dating when they met in Montreal, but she and Trudeau continued to talk. The singer became single this summer after her split from Orlando Bloom, which was announced in June.
When Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry’s date in Montreal made headlines in July, the singer had just broken up with Orlando Bloom and wasn’t looking for a new relationship.
However, Canada’s former prime minister changed his mind during private discussions. Last weekend, they were photographed kissing on a yacht in Santa Barbara, California. A source told People that Trudeau was “very respectful” but pursued Perry because he believed in their potential as a couple.
“When she first hung out with Justin, she had no intention of dating, but they kept in touch,” the source detailed. “They had a lot of common interests and a lot to talk about, but Katie was going through so much at the time that she couldn’t even think about dating.”
“I’ve been following her ever since,” Trudeau said. “I even flew to California to meet her during a break in my tour. They have an easy connection. She finds him attractive. He has a lot of respect for her.”
A source confirmed Perry and Trudeau’s potential in early August, telling People magazine, “They’re interested in each other, but it’s going to take a while to see how this goes. She’s been traveling the world[on tour]and he’s exploring his life now that he’s stepped down as Canada’s prime minister, but there’s an attraction. They have a lot in common.”
“Music is one of the many things they can share,” the source added. “We are both idealists and still live in a world that we think can be improved, even though it has become more difficult.”
Perry cheekily confirmed her new romance with Trudeau when a fan proposed to her at a Lifetimes Tour concert in London last night. “Did you hear I’m single? That’s interesting,” Perry began. When a fan asked her the question, she jokingly said, “Are you kidding me? Not today! Look, you should have asked me like 48 hours ago.”
Perry and ex Bloom confirmed in June that they had called off their engagement, saying they remained focused on co-parenting their 5-year-old daughter, Daisy.
