“Southern Charm” alumnus Kathryn Dennis has been sued for being held in prison in a traffic accident in May 2024.
Plaintiff Larry Patrick Griffin, who was behind the wheel of a 2012 Honda sedan at the time of the accident last year, alleged in the lawsuit that the Bravo graduate’s decision caused “physical damage, pain and distress and mental distress” and caused damage to his property.
In court documents filed in South Carolina and obtained by Page Six Tuesday in August, he alleged that Dennis was “driving under the influence of alcohol and other controlled substances” when he rear-ended his 2017 Nissan vehicle, which resulted in a “rear-collaring.”
“She made a conscious decision to drive on public roads under the influence of alcoholic beverages and other controlled substances and under the intoxication,” the complaint alleged.
Although Griffin did not disclose the exact amount of the suit, he sought the court for “fair and appropriate” relief for “property, punitive damages” and “costs of this suit.”
Dennis’ insurance company State Farm is named as a co-defendant in the lawsuit, but in response to the complaint, the insurer said it was “denial of the claim” as it “is currently lacking information.”
The reality star herself has not yet responded to the lawsuit and was unable to contact her immediately.
Dennis, 34, is currently serving a 30-day sentence at the Berkeley County Jail after a judge’s sentence last Friday in connection with the case. She was found guilty of driving under the influence.
The former Bravolverbrity was initially arrested shortly after the three-vehicle collision, but police reportedly found her with “skinny eyes and the smell of alcohol from people.”
The police report also stated that she was driving with an open container, which allegedly contained several mini bottles of cinnamon-flavored whiskey and fireballs.
According to local ABC News, Dennis denied drinking but later admitted that he had been drinking in the jail “long ago.”
Police footage released shortly after she was detained also showed law enforcement and former television talent arguing with law enforcement agencies trying to conduct sobriety tests on the scene.
“Wait, why? Are I in trouble?” I heard her asking.
Dennis, who has daughter Kensington (11) and son St. Julian (9), added that he and former Thomas Ravenell, “You’re going to ruin my life and my children’s (life)” with former Thomas Ravenell, who has been in a turbulent custody battle.
As a mother of two, she has a history of substance abuse problems. After a rehabilitation in 2019, she admitted that she was not completely sober and still drinking alcohol in Season 6 of Southern Charm.
Dennis appeared in the popular Bravo series from 2014 to 2022.
