Oscar-nominated Taraji P. Henson continues his run in Tyler Perry’s cinema universe. This time, the “Why Did I Marry?” franchise.
Henson will be appearing in the film, entitled “Why am I married again?” and will be alongside returning players Tasha Smith, Sharon Real, Michael Jai White, Ramman Rucker and Jill Scott. The new film marks her fifth collaboration with Perry after “I Can Do Everything Well” , “The Family that Fried that Frieds”, “Acromony” and “Straw” which became a hit earlier this year.
Perry, who makes and directs the film, also stars as one of eight college friends who tackle the marriage challenge during their annual reunion.

Armani Greer, Everett Osborne, Da’vinchi, Laya Deleon Hayes, Jaden Michael, Charles L. Smith, Derrick A. King and Sydney Winbush conclude the cast. The project is currently being filmed in an Italian location.
“Why am I married again?” is the latest film in Perry’s creative partnership with Netflix, where we see him writing and producing films, series and faith-based features for streamers. Perry’s latest film, Ruth & Boaz, was released on Friday and is currently ranked on the global top ten movie list. The Bible-inspired romance he produced alongside Devon Franklin has continued to be a series of streaming hits, following “Madea’s Destination Wedding” and “Straw.”
The original film, 2007’s Why I Get Marry?”, was inspired by Perry’s play of the same name, and was a box office hit. The 2010 sequel, “Why Did I Marry You too?” won $606.6 million worldwide. Perry then created the spin-off series, “Tyler Perry is for better or worse.” The sitcom premiered on TBS in 2011, running there for two seasons, then four more seasons.
In July, Perry teased that he finally appeared in the film by posting a cover page for the “table draft” version of the film’s script. Perry also notably tagged the main cast of the franchise, including Janet Jackson, but the music legend was not listed in the official announcement Wednesday.
