“The Naked Gun” brought the old-fashioned comedy back to cinemas this summer. And audiences will be able to enjoy the same laughs at home as soon as the action comedy arrives on Paramount+ on September 30th.
Late sequel to “Police Squad!” – The Naked Gun, an inspired film series from the 1980s and 90s with the same name, reintroducing the franchise to modern audiences, featuring Liam Neeson as Frank Drevin Jr., the son of the original film’s lead character. Neeson’s serious attitude makes for a raucous comedy that is true to the Zucker Brothers’ original tone juxtaposed with the playful density of his crime-fighting characters and the strange escape.
Seth MacFarlane produced the film, directed by Akiba Schaffer of Lonely Island. Neeson will be cast by Pamela Andresen, Danny Houston, Kevin Durand, CCH Powder, Liza Kosi and Paul Walter Hauser. Hauser plays Captain Ed Hocken Jr., Drevin’s partner and son of the character Alan North in the old film. Dave Bautista, Basta Rhymes and Cody Rhodes all made cameos, like “The Strange Al” Jankovic and Priscilla Presley.
The film was developed in Seth Macfarlane’s fuzzy door production and was released by Paramount Pictures. It appeared in theaters on August 1st and debuted at $17 million at the domestic box office. It ended behind the opening weekend of “Fantastic Four: First Steps” and “The Bad Guys 2.” So far, it has earned more than $100 million at the box office worldwide.
