XPRIZE has launched a global film competition aimed at inspiring a new wave of optimistic sci-fi storytelling about humanity’s technology-enabled future.

Future Vision XPRIZE invites filmmakers and creators from around the world to submit three-minute trailers or short films depicting their hopeful visions of tomorrow. This initiative is brought to you through the 100 Zeros initiative, in partnership with Google and Range Media Partners.

The grand prize winner will receive $2.5 million in production funding and a $100,000 cash prize to develop their concept into a feature film. Four additional finalists will each receive $100,000, with an additional $500,000 prize to be announced later in the contest.

“Cautionary tales have always played an important role on screen, but this competition creates space for a different, equally essential kind of storytelling that explores the complex optimism of a world in transition,” said Peter Diamandis, founder and executive chairman of the XPRIZE Foundation. “Entertainment shapes our collective imagination, and we want to empower creators to illustrate the human determination and vision needed to build for a truly thriving future.”

As a creative technology partner, Google will provide tools designed to help filmmakers bring their concepts to life, while Range will oversee the judging process and select five finalists from among the submissions.

These finalists will present their projects live at the Moonshot Gathering in Los Angeles on September 25th, and a panel of judges from the entertainment, technology, and science categories will select the grand prize winner.

Entries open on March 9th and end on August 15th on the contest website. This effort is supported by philanthropic donations from Jed McCaleb, Rod Roddenberry, Cathie Wood, and the Abundance360 community.
