Following Olivia Rodrigo’s high-profile romance with Louis Partridge, fans have been speculating about her relationship status for months. The two stars sparked breakup rumors in December and have not been photographed together this year. Neither Rodrigo nor Partridge have confirmed or denied the chatter about their relationship.
There’s a good reason for this, Rodrigo told Dazed. It stems from the boundaries she set for herself when navigating love as a celebrity.
The outlet asked if fans will get answers about her relationship status on her album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, which is released next Friday.
Rodrigo was a bit evasive, saying, “This album is filled with a lot of different emotions. I think that’s one of my favorite things about it. There are songs for people who are going through any stage of love.”
She added, “I mean, I never talk about my personal life in interviews or in public. So I think music is a place where people make assumptions about things. But at the end of the day, it’s just a song.”
She was more candid about how she views heartbreak now, saying, “I think it’s easier[to endure]… I don’t know, talk to me in two years, and then maybe I’ll be going through the worst breakup ever. I don’t think heartbreak will ever be as bad as it was when I was 17. That breakup I had when I was 17… God, it’ll never be that hard again. I guess I’m being very naive.” But when you have rejection of any kind, whether it’s love, work, or friends, the older you get, the less you take things personally, and the more experience you have, the more you start to feel like it’s okay. ”
Days asked if she had any advice for people going through a breakup. “Well, it’s like a blind man leading a blind man! I don’t relate to Mrs. Madame. I’m not particularly smart or wise. But I think it’s best to be with friends. I don’t know what I would have done in difficult times if I didn’t have great friends. I think it can be a really great opportunity to reorient yourself to feel more aligned with yourself. It’s something like that. Even if it doesn’t last forever and doesn’t result in marriage, it’s so valuable that you never learn about yourself through other experiences. ”
Time has healed, and several years after Rodrigo’s drama with ex-boyfriend Joshua Bassett and short-term girlfriend Sabrina Carpenter, Rodrigo has revealed that he plans to work with Carpenter, with whom he has a good relationship.
Mr. Days asked if they could collaborate sometime. Rodrigo laughed and said, “Oh my god. I mean, I’m open…to all kinds of collaborations.”
