Haylie Duff was engaged to Matt Rosenberg for 12 years before they broke up, and over the years she’s been candid about why the two never crossed paths.
The actress was asked about the couple’s wedding plans in a 2021 Access Hollywood interview, seven years after her then-partner got down on one knee.
“We weren’t planning on not getting married. We were just busy having kids and filming the show and him working,” Duff, 41, said at the time. “To be honest, it felt like life was getting away from us.”
The “7th Heaven” alum went on to mention her daughters Ryan, now 10, and daughter Lulu, now 7, and explained that she and Rosenberg always said she would marry him “if it was important to them.”
“Now, every time I wear a nice outfit, Ryan says, ‘Mom, you look so pretty, are you going to wear that to the wedding?'”
Duff joked about the possibility of a “future wedding in Texas” and revealed that she and her partner are “talking about something like that.”
The “Real Girls Kitchen” star continued, “We were thinking of doing it as soon as we had kids, and now this is happening.”
Duff said as much during a chat with People in February 2018, speculating, “Maybe after the new baby craze dies down, we’ll be ready to talk about it again.”
“We talk about it and think, ‘Maybe I’m ready to do it now,’ and then life happens and you have a toddler,” she said. “I feel like we’re already married, but we’re just not into each other.”
Duff’s representatives confirmed Monday that Rosenberg, 37, and his fiance asked her to quit her job “around the beginning of this year.”
The two started dating in 2012, and Rosenberg got down on one knee in 2014.
“Matt totally surprised me and proposed to me…on April Fool’s Day!” Duff blogged after the proposal. “That moment was pure and sweet (just like him). I couldn’t wait to say yes!”
Hilary Duff was overjoyed at the news at the time, tweeting, “So glad I don’t have to hide this news!! My beautiful sister @HaylieDuff and her amazing boyfriend @Matt_STS are engaged!!!”
The Lizzie McGuire alum, 38, and Hailey have since been estranged, with Hailey not attending Hilary’s 2019 wedding to husband Matthew Koma.
The former Disney Channel star’s February album “Luck…or Something” includes a song called “We Don’t Talk,” about his desire to get back together with Hillary.
“It’s definitely the loneliest part of my life,” she told Rolling Stone about the emotional song. “I wondered, ‘Should I share this?'”
Hailey has not commented on the release, but made headlines in January when she split from High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale after she criticized the actress and members of her “toxic” celebrity mom group.
