Craig Melvin will be taking “Today” off all week for a “little family trip” following Thursday’s horrific security breach.
Savannah Guthrie explained the reason for Melvin’s absence at the start of Monday’s broadcast, sitting next to Shainelle Jones, who filled in for Melvin.
Guthrie, 54, told viewers: “I’m going to get Shainelle over for Craig who is on a little family vacation.”
The women then talked about the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final between Spain and Argentina, as well as other news topics of the day.
Melvin’s family trip came just days after a deranged man broke into the Today show studio last Thursday morning and confronted the anchor.
The man, identified as Andrew Truelove, slipped past security at the NBC show’s New York headquarters and asked 47-year-old Melvin where Al Roker was.
True Love allegedly reached the stairs inside the studio and approached Melvin, calling him the N-word.
The man carrying the backpack was detained and arrested after Melvin called security.
After the incident, Melvin released a statement on Instagram.
“Hey everyone. Many of you have reached out to me in the last few hours. I’m fine,” he wrote.
“Thank you for reaching out. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow morning on @todayshow.”
As a result of the investigation, Page Six reported that the security guard who allowed the maniac into the building was fired.
Officials said security video showed two security guards on duty at the time of the break-in. However, one of the guards left and the other guard missed Truelove slipping in.
True Love faced numerous hate crime charges for the break-in, including hate crime threats, hate crime robbery, hate crime criminal trespassing, and harassment charges. His bail was set at $10,000, The Post confirmed.
Both Roker and Melvin were granted protective orders against the trespassers.
Page Six exclusively reported that the Today show staff is “on edge” over the incident as they continue to process the kidnapping case of Savannah’s mother, Nancy Guthrie.
Nancy, 84, was last seen on the night of January 31st.
