Dave Portnoy called Tom Brady “disgusting” and “uncool” in a scathing rant called “Wake Up Barstool.”
“What’s happening with Tom Brady post-retirement is one of the great downfalls of an icon,” the Barstool Sports creator told listeners on Monday.
He specifically mentioned Brady’s staged feud with a WWE wrestler at Michael Rubin’s Fanatics Fest in New York City, and mentioned the former NFL player, 48, who recently “made up with Logan Paul.”
Not only did Brady make headlines by slapping the 31-year-old Paul on stage at the Javits Center, he also gave Paul the bird in a video of the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals.
“[This is]something that’s becoming legacy,” Portnoy said of the viral moment. “You don’t want to see him mixed up with things like Saudi Arabia’s sleazy TikTok flag football league. Everything about him is disgusting to me right now.”
He agreed with Brandon Walker who likened Brady to Haley Welch, the 2024 “Hawk Tua” girl.
Walker explained, “He’s become this guy who looks like he’s trying to be in the spotlight, trying to get attention… and Tom Brady doesn’t need to do things that are made for entertainment.”
Portnoy specifically criticized Brady’s friend Michael Rubin, claiming that the Fanatics CEO could “cripple the coolest guys in the world.”
Portnoy noted that the former quarterback is a “star on the same level” as Michael Jordan, Lionel Messi, Wayne Gretzky and David Beckham, and argued that Brady “should be above the fray and not be a puppet of Michael Rubin.”
Portnoy similarly tweeted Sunday: “Can someone please shake Tom Brady and tell him to get as far away from Michael Rubin as possible and stop tarnishing his entire legacy?”
He also wrote that he was “glad” that Brady no longer had to “act like he’s not a douche” now that he’s distanced himself from the New England Patriots, where Portnoy is a huge fan.
Brady’s representatives did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
The athlete, who played in the NFL from 2000 to 2022, posted on Instagram about his weekend antics at Fanatics Fest.
“Had to rise from the dead for the @fanatics game (retirement 😭),” he wrote.
Brady also shared a Rubin-filled slideshow documenting his time attending the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which he called “one of the best month-long sporting events.”
“To everyone who made this month so great, to my friends and family, to the athletes from all over the world who stepped into the arena…these are memories we’ll always talk about, and I’m glad we were able to make them with you,” the seven-time Super Bowl champion said.
