Zoinks! “Scooby-Doo” will be made into an animation. Tubi has acquired a new animated series, “Welcome Scooby-Doo!” — means “Welcome Scooby-Doo” — focuses on Scooby-Doo and Shaggy and stars “Scooby-Doo!” Voice regulars Frank Welker (“Scoob!”) and Matthew Lillard (“Scream”) play the two main roles.
“Welcome to Scooby-Doo!” is the first original animation “Scooby-Doo! series and is produced by Warner Bros. Animation. Tubi has exclusive rights to the series in North America, and Cartoon Network will handle the series globally.
“Scooby-Doo is one of the most beloved series in entertainment, and we’re reinventing it in a way that ‘Welcome to Scooby-Doo!’ fans have never seen before,” Tubi Chief Content Officer Adam Lewinson said in a statement. “By bringing Scooby and Shaggy into a bold animated world set in Japan, we are connecting with fandoms around the world and delivering a fun, chaotic mystery that will transcend generations. As we expand the boundaries of animation, this is truly our brand of fan-first storytelling: relatable, surprising, and unmistakably Tubi.”
The logline is: “While visiting Japan on the ultimate foodie adventure, Scooby-Doo and Shaggy unwittingly unleash hundreds of mythical monsters, causing trouble across the country. With the help of Scooby’s uncle, Daisuke-Doo, and along with new friends magical girl Yume and gadget master Takumi, the group embarks on an all-new mystery full of monster chasing and fun chaos.”
Welker has been the voice of Scooby-Doo for over 20 years and has been a part of the Scooby-Doo franchise since the beginning, as the voice of Fred Jones in “Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!” Lillard played Shaggy in the live-action Scooby-Doo movies and has since voiced the character in multiple animated series.
This is the first animated Scooby-Doo! However, this is not the characters’ first adventure in Japan. The 2009 video movie Scooby-Doo! and the Samurai Sword was filmed in the country.
“Welcome to Mystery, Inc., Tubi!” Sam Register, president of Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to partner on this next chapter as we move the Scooby-Doo franchise forward with the first-ever original animated series. We’ll be working with OLM’s amazing artists to uncover new mysteries, signature pranks, and of course plenty of Scooby Snacks, all brought to life by the dynamic artistry of animation.”
This is the second announcement of the day regarding a project that will be entered into competition by one of the Warner Bros. Discovery Animation studios on behalf of Cartoon Network/HBO Max. Disney+ and Hulu have announced the U.S. premiere date for Cartoon Network Studios’ new animated series Adventure Time: Side Quests on June 29th.
“Welcome to Scooby-Doo!” is directed by Itsuro Kawasaki and co-produced by Francisco Paredes. Japan’s OLM will provide production services, and Warner Bros. Animation will serve as producer.
