What can she get for having everything? If you’re Travis Kelsey, you’d think a line of jewelry that once belonged to Elizabeth Taylor would be perfect.
Over the past few weeks, Taylor Swift has shown off various pieces from her collection of opal jewelry from the late movie star’s estate. First was a ring and round-cut bracelet for an April outing in New York, followed by a similar marquise-shaped bracelet for a recent New York Times Magazine interview.
And shortly after the Grammy winner was spotted wearing the full set in Brooklyn on Saturday night, which included both bracelets, a ring, and a set of eye-catching chandelier earrings, Adam Fox of Fox Estate Jewelry shared an Instagram Reel suggesting that Kelce may have purchased this one-of-a-kind set for the bride.
The entire suite, designed by Darlene de Cedre, was sold by Christie’s in 2011 for $6,000, and then by Fox’s company via 1stDibs in 2025 for $125,000, as the auction house confirmed to Page Six Style.
Fox said in the video that the sale took place “around Christmas time” and that the buyer was a sports agent, not a typical customer.
“On most of these online platforms, if it’s a big-ticket item, someone will contact you and ask you questions. Sometimes they’ll try to negotiate, sometimes they don’t. This was just a random sale,” the third-generation estate jeweler told Page Six Style.
Despite the “very strange” nature of the purchase, Fox ignored it — until he woke up Sunday and saw a post from Instagram account WeWoreWhatJewels showcasing Swift’s entire suite.
“I thought, oh, this makes so much sense,” he told us, adding that it was “so cool” to see the jewelry he sold being worn by one of the most famous women in the world.
As for whether Kelce (or any member of his team) was the mystery buyer?
“I’m just a jeweler,” he stammered. “I just had to assume, and the only reason I assumed that was because it would go to a sports agency.”
Fox was initially drawn to the suite for its Hollywood origins, “extraordinary” quality, and unique designer. Meanwhile, Taylor reportedly owned many pieces by Darlene de Cedre, but the jeweler is by no means famous.
“This is not something that would cross my desk,” he said of the set, made from black opal and natural Australian crystal and set in 22K gold.
And after the Christie’s sale in 2011, these works disappeared from public view for more than a decade, deepening the intrigue.
“I’m really happy that it’s in the hands of someone who really appreciates it. I know Taylor Swift has a song about Elizabeth Taylor, but it all makes sense. It seems like it was bought with quite a purpose. There was obviously a lot of thought put into this song,” Fox said.
“And coming from someone like Elizabeth Taylor and going to someone who is as famous in today’s generation as Taylor was then? I think that’s pretty cool.”
