Carly Pearce spoke about the moment she knew her marriage was over shortly after she said “I do.”
In a new interview on the podcast The Person Who Believed in Me, the 36-year-old country singer revealed that he knew marriage was the wrong choice on their wedding night, saying, “He made it very clear to me that I had made a very big mistake.”
“There’s a Jekyll and Hyde thing about me…I didn’t realize it until it was too late,” she explained. “And that’s what I’m thankful for for my very short marriage, because it taught me a lot about myself. It also gave me the album ’29.’
When pressed further, Pierce said her marriage and divorce “taught me how strong I am” and that she soon realized “this is not what I deserved” and did something about it.
“I blew up my life to get out of there,” she said. “I didn’t stay here because society said, ‘You should.'” I didn’t stay here because my faith says divorce is bad. I didn’t stay because “Oh, it’s public.” I need to do that. ‘It’s over. ”
The “Dear Miss Loretta” singer was previously married to country singer Michael Ray from October 2019 to June 2020.
This love affair and divorce ultimately became the inspiration for her third album, 29, which included songs such as “What He Didn’t Do” and “Next Girl.”
Pearce explained that although she doesn’t consider herself a “good communicator,” she feels she can express herself better through writing songs, saying, “I need to write it down to process it.” This led her to write “six really intense songs” about divorce, which she thought were too many for an album.
“I thought this was just my story, but what I learned is that it’s a story of many different people,” she said.
She ultimately won the Grammy Award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for the album’s song “Never Wanted to be That Girl” featuring Ashley McBride.
In 2025, Pierce posted a cozy selfie on Instagram, confirming that he was dating entrepreneur Jordan Kercher.
During an appearance on the Dumb Blonde podcast in August 2025, Pierce spoke about her new relationship, saying she was “happier than ever” and revealing that they met on the dating app Raya.
“I never thought I would meet a real person on Raya,” she said. “I thought, how can I meet someone who’s like me? He’s not in any kind of entertainment. This is the best thing. I’m really happy.”
Pearce recently urged her followers to seek medical attention if they have any health problems, after going through a medical nightmare when she was initially misdiagnosed with pericarditis.
She recalled feeling ignored by doctors and encouraged her followers to be persistent about their health.
“‘Oh, you have anxiety. Oh, you have a busy schedule,'” Pearce recalled being told. “And I was like, ‘No, something’s wrong.’ And in 2024, I took it public just because I was a little concerned. But I’m really fine. And I didn’t have any major talent. But again, I think I’m just trying to be honest with people and use my platform to say, ‘There’s something wrong, go get tested.’
