The British and Irish box office gained momentum over the weekend, with Disney’s “Star Wars” spin-off “The Mandalorian and Grogu” taking the top spot with an opening debut of 5.2 million pounds ($7.1 million).

Universal’s music biopic “Michael,” which moved to No. 2 in its sixth week of release, maintained its momentum, earning $2.4 million for a solid $59.5 million total. Universal also brought in the horror-romance “Obsession” in third place with $1.7 million, for a total of $5.3 million.

Disney’s The Devil Wears Prada 2 came in at No. 4 in its fourth weekend and added $1.5 million to its lifetime box office total, which now stands at $40.6 million.

The release of RFT Films’ Malayalam suspense thriller trilogy ‘Drishyam 3’ clocked in at $1.1 million. “The Sheep Detectives,” distributed by Sony, followed in sixth place in its third weekend, collecting $723,515 for a total of $8.7 million.

Paramount opened the supernatural horror film Passengers in seventh place, earning $451,225, more than the opening frame.

Universal made it back into the top 10 with “Finding Emily,” which came in at No. 8 with $286,070.

Rounding out the chart was Universal’s “Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” which reached No. 9 in its ninth week with $163,220 and a total of $50.4 million. Picturehouse Entertainment’s “The Christophers” placed 10th in the second slot, adding $155,270 for a total of $1.1 million.

Looking ahead to the coming frames, leading the charge to more than 300 locations is A24 horror mystery The Backroom, directed by Kane Parsons and starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve. Lionsgate UK is also targeting a wide rollout of more than 300 sites with John Carney’s musical comedy “Power Ballad,” featuring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas. Joining the wide release tier is Black Bear’s drama Tuner, directed by Daniel Lauer and starring Leo Woodall and Dustin Hoffman.

Universal will release My Mother’s Wedding, Kristin Scott Thomas’ star-studded directorial debut starring Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller and Emily Beacham. At the same time, Vertigo Releasing is releasing James Lucas’ “Mos and Freud” starring Ellie Bamber and Derek Jacobi. On a more limited scale, Icon Film Distribution is releasing Andrew Durham’s Fairyland in more than 25 locations, and Trinity Films is releasing Herman Yau’s We’re Nothing at All in a similar format. Modern Films rounds out its modern crop of new titles with a limited release of Lena Vulma and Thor Klein’s Leonora in the Morning Light.

Nostalgia and repertoire films will also play an important role in the weekend market. Park Circus is celebrating a milestone with a 25th anniversary 4K restoration of the classic comedy film Legally Blonde, showing it on more than 100 screens. Action fans will see Arrow Films return John Woo’s Bullets to theaters with a 4K restoration on more than 25 screens, and Curzon’s critically acclaimed 4K re-release of Portrait of a Lady on Fire. Event Cinema concludes its schedule on Thursday with National Theater Live’s Playboy of the Western World – NT Live 2026, followed by Trafalgar Releasing’s production of the opera El Ultimo Sueno de Frida y Diego – Met Opera 2026 on Saturday.
