‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ director Adrian Grenier talks about why he dropped out of the sequel

Adrian Grenier could have made a cameo appearance in The Devil Wears Prada 2, but he just “didn’t have the time” to make it happen.

David Frankel, who directed the original 2006 film and returned 20 years later with the long-awaited sequel, told Entertainment Weekly that his idea to briefly feature the “Entourage” actors fell through as the film was fully completed with less than a month left until its May 1 release date.

“We had an idea to sneak him in for a cameo, but the production schedule was too slow to make that happen,” Frankel explained.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Frankel said there was “no time” to bring back Grenier, along with returning cast members Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci and Anne Hathaway (pictured above). wire image

Appearing on Page Six in March, Grenier theorized why he wasn’t invited to reprise his role as Nate Cooper, Anne Hathaway’s former lover of Andrea “Andy” Sachs.

“Obviously I was disappointed that I wasn’t asked to be in the sequel, but I also understand that there’s some backlash against the character Nate, so maybe that has something to do with it,” he said.

Grenier said he “of course” would have liked to be back with Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci and Meryl Streep, but he doesn’t hold any grudges.

Even though nothing was asked of him, he said, “We’re all fans of this movie, whether we’re in it or not.”

Grenier also hinted that his omission from the film was “just leaving room for a spinoff” for his character.

In 2006’s The Devil Wears Prada, Andy’s relationship with Nate deteriorates as he prioritizes the demands of his difficult boss, Miranda Priestly (Streep), editor-in-chief of the fictional fashion magazine Runway.

Nate basically forces Andy to choose between him and his job, and you can probably guess which path she’ll go down.

Grenier also teased that he wasn’t asked to appear in “The Devil Wears Prada 2” in a recent Starbucks commercial.

“As you may have seen in the headlines, I wasn’t asked to be in the sequel,” he deadpans to the camera. “But I’m fine, really. It’s all good energy.”

The actor then toasted Nate, who was branded the real villain of the first film for not being supportive of Andy, adding: “He wasn’t perfect.”

Grenier later joked, “If they call me, that means I’m free.”

Elsewhere in the Entertainment Weekly interview, Frankel mentioned Grenier’s Starbucks commercial and said he was “thrilled” to see Grenier “really funny and really assertive.”

He added, “I love that humility and comedy!”

The Devil Wears Prada 2 will be released in the US on May 1st.
