Nadia Fares, a Moroccan-French actress who starred in “Crimson River,” died on Friday. She was 57 years old.
Juarez was found unconscious in a swimming pool last week and had been in a coma since then. Her daughters confirmed in a statement to Agence France-Presse that she died of cardiac arrest.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nadia Fares this Friday. France has lost a great artist, but most of all we have just lost a mother,” Cilia and Shana Chasman said originally in French.
Fares made his film debut in 1992 in “My Wife” and gained fame for his role in the 2000 police thriller “Crimson Rivers,” co-starring Jean Reno and Vincent Cassel and directed by Mathieu Kassowitz.
She then appeared as Agent Jade Kinler in the 2007 action thriller film “War” and as Pia in the 2007 horror film “Storm Warning.”
Born in Marrakech on December 20, 1968, Fares grew up in Nice before moving to Paris to pursue a career in film.
In 2009, Fares took a break from her career and moved to the United States after marrying Los Angeles-based producer Steve Chasman. She returned to acting in 2016 with the Netflix drama series Marseille. She and Chasman had two daughters, but eventually separated in 2022, with Fares returning to France.
On April 11, Fares was found unconscious in the gym pool of a private sports complex in Blanche, Paris. After being rescued by fellow swimmers who tried to revive her with CPR, she was taken to Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, where she was placed in an induced coma until she went into cardiac arrest on April 17.
French newspaper Le Figaro reported that an investigation has been launched into the cause of her injuries and that “no criminal activity has been identified at this stage.”
Mr. Fares is survived by two daughters, Cilia Chazman and Shana Chazman.
