It’s definitely going to be Shark Week.
Discovery Channel has set up a new Shark Week special named after Netflix’s hit animated film KPop Demon Hunters. Titled “KPop Shark Heroes,” there will be special appearances by Ken Jeong and Rei Ami, who provides the singing voice of the character Zoe from “KPop Demon Hunters.” Their casting marks a reunion of sorts, as Chung will be voicing Bobby, the agent and manager of the KPop Demon Hunters band Huntr/x.
The official description for KPop Shark Heroes reads: “Following a series of recent shark encounters off the coast of the Korean peninsula, actor and comedian Ken Jeong is determined to change the perception of sharks in East Asia and around the world. Along with his film co-star, Grammy-nominated singer and lifelong shark enthusiast Lay Ami, Ken is on a mission to launch a bold and unique public awareness campaign that educates, empowers and changes the narrative.” Use the power of K-POP to be around these sea creatures. ”
“KPop Shark Heroes” is produced by Will Packer Media and Anomaly Entertainment for Discovery Channel and will premiere during this year’s Shark Week, which runs from July 26th to August 1st.
Chung is best known for playing Leslie Chow in all three “The Hangover” movies and Ben Chan in “Community,” which aired for five seasons on NBC from 2009 to 2015 and moved to Yahoo Screen for its sixth and final season. His other notable works include “Knocked Up,” “Crazy Rich Asians,” and “The Masked Singer,” where he has been a judge since season 1 in 2019.
Before “KPop Demon Hunters,” Rei Ami gained attention for being featured on Sub Urban’s 2020 song “Freak,” 2021 mixtape “Foil,” and 2023 EP “Shh.” She was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Golden” along with fellow “KPop Demon Hunter” singers Ijae and Audrey Nuna.
