Studio Canal has released the first look of Romeo Beckham in his acting debut, Forty Love, directed by famous fashion photographer Pierre-Ange Carlotti.
Forty Love, Carlotti’s directorial debut, was produced by Hugo Serignac and Paco de Barry of Chi Fu Mi Productions, a Media One company, and co-produced by Studio Canal and Mana Studio.
Beckham stars opposite Paul Kircher (Animal Kingdom), Guillaume Canet (Sink or Swim), Benjamin Voisin (The Stranger), and also stars Catherine Deneuve. The film’s music was composed by 070 Shake and Johan Lennox.
The story revolves around Sacha Gallo, a tennis superstar who has been training with her father to win a big trophy in Paris. But the arrival of a charismatic new rival, played by Beckham, challenges everything Sasha thought she understood about competition, ambition, and herself. “For the first time, he comes face-to-face with someone of a completely different nature: love,” the synopsis reads. “That power is both exhilarating and volatile, and far more dangerous than anything he encountered on the court.”
Beckham, the son of soccer legend David and designer Victoria, has modeled for some of the biggest luxury brands including Yves Saint Laurent and Balenciaga for several years.
“I have admired[Carlotti’s]work as a photographer for many years,” said Serignac, whose five films had world premieres at the Cannes Film Festival and is producing the next Léos Carax film starring Jenna Ortega.
“His images have a rare tenderness, melancholy, and strength that made his transition to directing feel like a natural next step for me,” said Serignac, who described the film as “a sensual, romantic, and deeply moving romantic fable and coming-of-age story” that is “guided by the demands of high-level sport and everything that lies beneath its surface… by outstanding performances.”
Carlotti co-wrote the screenplay with Gael Masset, and his credits include Rebecca Zlotowski’s “Private Life,” starring Jodie Foster.
In addition to co-producing, Studiocanal is also handling global sales and will release Forty Love theatrically in France on November 25th.
“Carlotti’s unique visual language gives the film a real edge, and its exploration of desire, competition and identity will resonate with audiences around the world,” said Chloe Marche, head of international film and television sales at Studiocanal.
Best known for critically acclaimed crowd-pleasers such as Beating Hearts and All Your Faces, Serignac screened a record five films at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. In particular, Jeanne Herry’s Palme d’Or nominee Garance, starring Adèle Exarchopoulos, and Quentin Dupieux’s Full Fill, co-starring Kristen Stewart and Woody Harrelson.
