A new original animated series tentatively titled Journey has been greenlit for Disney+. The show is currently in production by Disney Kids & Family and Higher Ground.
According to the logline, “When the energy shield protecting the city begins to fail, Journey answers a mysterious call that leads her beyond its walls and into the Forbidden Land. In this new world, she uncovers the truth about her father’s disappearance and discovers a powerful magic within herself that may hold the key to saving her people.”
Produced by Disney Kids & Families and produced by Icon Creative Studios in association with Disney Television Animation, Journey is created by Matt Mann (Ice Age: Collision Course, Spies in Disguise) and executive produced by Steve Lauter (Marvel’s Kim Possible). Jesse Dikovitsky is the executive producer of Higher Ground.
“Journey is an epic adventure starring a remarkable young heroine whose bravery inspires those around her,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family. “At its core, it’s a story about resilience, self-discovery, and the power of believing in something bigger than yourself – universal themes that have defined Disney stories for generations.”
Dikovitsky, Higher Ground’s head of television, added, “Combining adventure, imagination and music, ‘Journey’ is a true original with a bold twist. We are proud to partner with Disney on this great series and build on Higher Ground’s history of providing fun and meaningful stories for children and families.”
“Journey” joins Disney Kids & Family’s growing slate of animated storytelling for Disney+, along with “Bluey,” “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+,” “Marvel’s Spidey and His Fantastic Friends,” “Big City Greens” and “Phineas and Ferb.”
Higher Ground’s family franchises include Waffles + Mochi and Ada Twist, The Scientist.
