Prince William is said to have threatened to take extreme action against Prince Andrew’s daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie in their dispute with their uncle over the Royal Lodge mansion.
On Monday’s episode of the News Agent podcast, journalist Emily Maitlis, who interviewed Andrew on the BBC’s Newsnight in 2019, said she was told in a meeting with Prince William and the princesses: “You must remove your father from the Royal Lodge or we will begin to review the status of your titles.”
Maitlis continued: “I understand that there was a bit of pressure to tell[her father]that this was going to happen to the princesses.”
“I can see why Prince Andrew, as a father, would want to keep his daughters happy and keep his title, no matter what happens,” she opined.
She also claimed that Charles III was supposed to stop by the Royal Lodge to “read the Insurrection Act to his brother”.
However, according to Maitlis, that meeting never took place. Because the ensuing media frenzy “made the palace so nervous” that they “canceled everything.”
However, The Sun reported that no talks between Prince William, Beatrice and Prince Eugenie took place, with one source claiming the future king, 43, does not even have the authority to strip them of their titles.
Andrew, 65, is reported to be claiming Frogmore Cottage, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s former home, while his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson is said to be in quite the fight over leaving the Royal Lodge, with her reportedly hoping to move into Adelaide Cottage after Prince William and Duchess Kate move out next month.
(Despite their divorce in 1996, Ferguson moved to Royal Lodge with Andrew in 2008.)
A friend of Andrew and Ferguson told The Sun UK: “Andy is keen to leave but this is his request.” “He is realistic and knows the writing is on the wall, that his time at Royal Lodge is over.”
According to the paper, the king has long wanted the former couple to move out of the Royal Lodge, and the prince has not paid rent despite living there for 21 years.
But as the scandal surrounding Andrew’s relationship with the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein continues, the stakes are higher than ever.
