Authorities responded to a shooting near Chris Brown’s home in Los Angeles, and a suspect is in custody.
A Los Angeles Police Department media relations official told Page Six that at approximately 4:11 p.m. Friday, officers from the Los Angeles West Valley Police Department responded to a radio call about a possible “shooting that had just occurred” in Tarzana.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, “the victim and suspect engaged in an altercation,” during which the suspect “produced a CO2-style handgun and fired a gun at the victim.”
The suspect was “apprehended by responding officers” and later arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, not a firearm. Bail was set at $50,000.
Sources told Page Six on Saturday that the “Royal” hitmaker was not involved.
TMZ was first to report the news.
The paper’s sources said the caller was a woman who described the suspect as a black man, about 35 years old. She claimed he fired a gun at her car.
Officials told the outlet that law enforcement interviewed both the suspect and the victim, and that the male suspect said the argument started after the woman refused to leave.
The suspect claimed he fired at the woman’s car because she had allegedly run him over her foot.
Law enforcement officials told the outlet that the man was taken into custody at the scene and later arrested on charges of criminal damage to property and assault with a deadly weapon.
Sources told the newspaper that the incident occurred on the street outside the singer’s home, not at his home or on the Grammy winner’s property.
It is unclear whether Brown was home at the time of the incident.
Representatives for Mr. Brown did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment on Saturday.
Although Brown was not involved, he has faced a lot of legal drama in the past. The “Under the Influence” singer was arrested in Manchester, England in May 2025 for allegedly hitting music producer Abe Diaw with a tequila bottle at a London nightclub in 2023.
He was charged with one count of grievous bodily harm and was eventually released on bail. Mr. Brown pleaded not guilty in June 2025, and the case is scheduled for trial in October 2026.
Meanwhile, Diaw filed a lawsuit over the incident, but Brown reached a settlement with Diaw in June 2025, after which Diaw dropped the $16 million civil suit.
Brown is also embroiled in a lawsuit with his former housekeeper, Maria Avila. Maria Avila sued the R&B star in 2021 for allegedly attacking her sister with a dog in 2020.
The case is scheduled to go to trial on June 15, and the Daily Mail reported that Brown, who was accused of domestic violence by his ex Rihanna in 2009, recently filed a motion to prevent him from mentioning the incident during the trial.
