Pierce Brosnan looks unrecognizable in the trailer for his latest movie, Giant.
The 72-year-old Bond actor underwent a major makeover for his role as Brendan Ingle in the sports biopic, complete with a white comb bar and glasses.
In the trailer released Friday, Brosnan takes on a young boy as his boxing apprentice and teaches him to become a boxing champion, but his fame soon causes a rift between master and apprentice.
The film, executive produced by Sylvester Stallone, follows the life of Naseem “Naz” Hamed from his “humble beginnings on the tough working-class streets of Sheffield” to his discovery by steel worker turned boxing trainer Brendan Ingle (Brosnan).
According to Deadline, the synopsis reads, “Their unlikely partnership with Nas’ unconventional style, cocky personality, and in-ring dominance propelled them to the pinnacle of boxing’s elite and unprecedented levels of global superstardom, all in the face of the Islamophobia and racism that plagued Britain in the ’80s and ’90s.”
In addition to Brosnan, the cast also includes Amir El-Masry (who plays Hamed as a young adult), Katherine Dow Blyton, Ali Saleh, Ghaith Saleh, and Toby Stevens.
Hamed, now 52, is a well-known British-Yemeni former boxer. The peak of his career was from 1992 to 2002. He held several featherweight world championships between 1995 and 2000.
The real Ingle died in 2018 at the age of 77 from a brain hemorrhage. In addition to Hamed, he coached three other world champions: Johnny Nelson, Junior Witter, and Kell Brook.
During his boxing career, Ingle competed as a professional middleweight boxer. According to the BBC, he was at one time known as Britain’s eighth-best boxer.
In 1998 Ingle was made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for his services to British boxing and coaching young people in Sheffield.
Fans got their first glimpse of Brosnan stepping into the role in 2024. At the time, Brosnan was photographed walking in character on a movie set.
The snapshot showed Brosnan walking around in a blue jersey, with a wrinkled, aged face and a frail, elderly appearance that was in stark contrast to his typical James Bond flair.
Just like in the trailer, he wears thin glasses and has his gray hair combed back.
