Rising British actor Matthew Bloom, star of Apple TV’s “The Buccaneers” and Prime Video’s “My Fault: London” series, says he doesn’t know where his next job will come from, but he “would love to audition” for the next James Bond movie.
Bloom will receive the International Golden Nymph Award for Most Promising Talent at the Monte Carlo Television Festival on Tuesday. “This is the first award in my career and I can’t believe that someone recognizes my work,” he says with a smile.
Speaking ahead of the award ceremony, he added: “This shows that I’m moving in the direction I want and I hope it opens even more doors for me and my career in the future. I’m truly honored.”
Your Fault: London, the second film in the hit series, was released this week and follows the turbulent romantic story of American teenager Noah (Asha Banks) and her “bad boy” stepbrother Nick (Bloom). Did the success of the first work surprise him? “Yes, because there’s so much being created on streamers right now that things can get lost in the air.”
The final installment of the trilogy, “Our Fault: London,” published in the Post, is based on the highly successful Spanish version that preceded it, which was adapted from Mercedes Ron’s YA novel. “So we already had a fan base,” Matthew says. “I didn’t know much about the success of movies or books, but when Asha explained it to me, it really started to make sense to me and I thought, ‘We’re not throwing that away.’
“But it was a little bit discouraging because everyone wasn’t too happy that we were already making an English version (the first Spanish film will be released in 2023). That was understandable. I remember when we were first announced that we were already making an English version of a very beloved It wasn’t the most positive outcome because we had such a quick turnaround in making the edition. There was definitely a lot of pressure when that first movie came out, and when it was successful and was very well received, we were just like, “We did it.” it is!
Bloom doesn’t know where her next job will come from. “It’s so exciting, so exciting and terrifying.”As a young British actor, has he ever been asked to audition for the next James Bond film?Matthew laughs. “No, I haven’t, but I would love to. Who wouldn’t? But no, I’m not auditioning.”
And with the second and third films completed in quick succession, is he done with the Fault series? “At the moment, we’re done, but you never know. I mean, Mercedes is writing a fourth book, but we don’t know what’s going to happen in the future. Don’t say never.”
