Signature Entertainment has acquired UK and Irish rights to Norwegian creature feature ‘Kraken’ from TrustNordisk.
“Kraken” Directed by Paul Oye (“The Tunnel”) and written by Vilde Eide, Gjersti Jellen Rasmussen and Natasha Arthur, “Kraken” follows Johanne, a marine biologist who encounters some strange occurrences while doing research at a local fish farm. After the brutal murders of two local teenagers, all clues point to Norway’s deepest fjord, where a giant mythical monster is hiding.
The cast includes Sara Kholami (Nothing to Laugh About), Mikkel Blatt Cirset (The Shadow of Victory), Ingvild Holte Bygdones (The Tunnel), Jenny Evensen, and Steiner Kruman Hallert (Thelma).
“Kraken” is produced by Jon Einar Hagen (“The Tunnel, Mortal”), Einar Loftenes (“The Tunnel”) and Vindhya Sagar (“Never Rarely Sometimes Always”). Executive producers include Sveinun Golimo (The Last Resort) and Catherine Vogelsang (The Last Resort, A New Beginning).
The deal was negotiated between Max Hart, Head of Acquisitions and Development at Signature Entertainment, and Susan Wendt, Managing Director at TrustNordisk.
“The Kraken is a rare and noble creature character that combines thrilling disaster spectacle with striking cinematography and a timely ecological message,” Hart said. “We are delighted to be able to bring this film to audiences in the UK and Ireland.”
Wendt added: “We’re thrilled to be able to bring this thrilling monster action experience to UK audiences and excited to be working with Signature on another film.”
Signature Entertainment and TrustNordisk have worked together many times in the past, with Signature acquiring the rights to films such as “The Tunnel,” “Handling the Undead,” “Before it Ends” and “The Arctic Convoy.”
