Nicole Richie and her daughter Kate Madden made a rare mother-daughter appearance on “Stop! That! Train!” Premiered in Los Angeles on Monday.
The pair were photographed posing on the red carpet, with the reality TV personality wearing a navy blue and polka dot dress with a matching headscarf and accessorizing with pendant earrings and what appeared to be a fur stole.
Meanwhile, Kate, 18, opted for an edgy strapless black dress and matching knee-high boots.
She parted her long black hair down the middle and accessorized her outfit with layered bracelets and necklaces.
The Simple Life alum, 44, who lives with husband Joel Madden, 47, and son Sparrow, 16, was spotted hanging out with friends at Coachella last month, looking similarly fashionable.
This comes as no surprise, given that her mother Nicole heads House of Harlow, a design house named after her daughter, whose full name is Harlow Kate.
“I call her by her middle name. She has a life of her own,” Nicole revealed in January after her birthday post for her daughter caused confusion among fans, adding that while she “didn’t see” the comments, it was “natural” for fans to be confused.
Joel commented on the snapshot merry-go-round at the time, saying, “How dare you make a grown man cry!!😭😭😭😭😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️” and added, “I love you Kate! You’re a badass (sic)! Never forget it! Happy 18th!!🎉🎉❤️❤️🎉.”
“Happy birthday!? Did you change your name?” one person asked, others echoing their confusion.
In October 2025, Nicole said that the two like to swap clothes in each other’s closets. “We’re pretty open with each other and we lend each other things we like (clothes),” she revealed to Extra at the time, noting that her daughter “keeps things in great shape.”
She added: “My mother always gave me whatever I wanted. That’s the attitude in our family.”
It seems like the bond between mother and daughter has remained strong over the years. In February, Kate posted a photo of herself with an angel wing tattoo on her back on social media, paying homage to her mother’s famous angel wing tattoo.
Kate wore a gold dress in the two photos and captioned the upload simply: “🪽” in honor of her mother.
