“90 Day Fiancé” season 12 star Marissa’s loved ones are skeptical of her fiancé, Edward, because of the stark disparity between rich and poor.
On Sunday’s episode of 90 Day Fiancé, Marissa prepared for Edward’s arrival in the United States from the Dominican Republic. The two met during a trip to his home country where she worked as a hotel concierge.
Marissa, 45, grew up very wealthy and has a well-paying job in New York City, while Edward, 32, has never flown on a plane.
Marissa’s ex-husband Michael (with whom she has two sons) was openly hostile about Edward’s arrival and the change in the family relationship. He questioned Edward’s motives for being with Marissa, wondering if he was simply trying to get a green card.
Michael said Marissa’s wealthy family was a problem in their marriage. That’s because Marissa felt like a “loser.”
“You have a million dollar house here, and it makes you feel a certain way,” he told her. “You know, I just didn’t feel like it was a good fit for me.”
Marissa admitted that her parents were “rich people.”
“They taught me so much about traveling, really nice vacations, beautiful hotels,” she explained. “I know it would be scary for Edward to meet and spend time with my family because they might criticize him and wonder what his intentions were, just like they did with Michael.”
Michael admitted that he was planning on having an attitude when it came to Edward.
“The only thing that was an absolute problem is that if it’s going to stress my sons, it’s going to be a problem for both of you,” he threatened.
She added, “He’s hard and heavy and he doesn’t have to come at me in a certain way. Especially when it comes to my kids, I would bite someone’s face off for them.”
Marissa was worried about Michael confronting Edward, noting that when her ex-boyfriend was excited, he was “very scary and intimidating.” Still, she was very excited and nervous to welcome Edward to the United States.
“I don’t know if I want to give a part of me to this single, independent woman, but I love Edward so much that I want to take this leap of faith for us,” she told the cameras.
Marissa and Edward had a happy reunion when she picked him up at the New York City airport and she gave him a gift. It was a million dollar house key wrapped in a box.
Marissa reflected on her K1 visa journey to bring Edward to the United States.
“We’re so grateful to be together in this moment because we’ve been waiting so long, and having Edward here feels like probably one of the best days of our relationship so far,” she said.
