It’s a tough life! (Gate Oh Anthem).
This week, a 63-year-old man broke down the gate to Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s East Hampton mansion, and police said he appeared “disoriented.”
According to a police report, the Bronx man “drove at a high rate of speed down the driveway” and “failed to stop at the closed driveway mechanical gate,” causing “significant damage.”
The man was arrested and taken to Stony Brook Hospital for pain. The vehicle was impounded and officers completed affidavits for trespassing and criminal mischief.
The investigation is still ongoing, but it is not immediately believed that the man intended to harm the famous couple.
The responding officer, Detective Sergeant Jennifer Dunn, told Page Six that the man had “no criminal history and seemed confused both at the scene and after his arrest. He did not make any threats or mention the residents’ names. If he had any health issues, it may have been a coincidence that he chose that home.”
Detective/Sergeant Dunn said he stopped at another home down the road, spoke to the owner and asked for the woman’s name. When told she didn’t live there, he continued, but the homeowner told officers “she seemed confused.”
Dunn said the investigation is ongoing, but “no weapons were found, no notes were found, there was no direct threat, there was no direct reference to the occupants of the house, so we don’t even know if he knew who lived in the house at this point.”
Representatives for Jay-Z and Beyoncé did not respond to requests for comment.
The East Hampton Star first reported the news.
The power couple bought the seven-bed, seven-and-a-half-bathroom mansion in 2017 for $26 million.
Last weekend, Jay-Z performed three days at Yankee Stadium, but the final night was marred by a hours-long delay as a large number of fans breached security. But fans still loved the show, which featured many guests including Beyoncé and her daughter Blue Ivy, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Eminem, Teyana Taylor, and more.
