Malia and Sasha Obama made a rare public appearance Thursday at the grand opening of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.
The sisters appeared on stage with their parents, former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama.
To attend this monumental event, Maria wore a plunging gray blazer and skirt. She had her long auburn hair down.
Sasha looked stunning in an off-the-shoulder white top with a matching skirt and an oversized brown belt. Her hair was swept back in a half-up, half-down style.
The opening ceremony was a star-studded event featuring musical performances from Christina Aguilera, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Eddie Vedder and more.
Other celebrity attendees included Bill and Hillary Clinton, Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, Gayle King, and Tom Hanks.
Located on Chicago’s South Side, the complex includes a museum, multiple concert and event venues, public park space, and a new branch of the Chicago Public Library.
The Obamas opened the center this weekend in honor of Juneteenth. Festivities celebrating the holiday will be held throughout the weekend.
Malia, 27, and Sasha, 25, have largely stayed out of the spotlight since their father’s presidency ended in 2017.
Malia and Sasha were just 10 and 7 years old, respectively, when their father was elected president of the United States in 2008.
Barak’s two terms put the girls under the microscope until they were 18 and 15 years old.
Last month, Malia and Sasha made another rare public appearance with their mother to celebrate Mother’s Day.
Michelle has previously spoken about the immense pressure her family was under during Barack’s presidency.
“I wanted to give my daughters enough rope to survive and be normal teenagers, but I was also worried that they’d show up on Page Six doing what normal kids do,” she admitted on the Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce podcast last year.
“We had to build a real community of trust around them, because we don’t want them to be sitting at home on a Saturday night without understanding what it’s like to go out and live life before going to college,” she explained.
At the time, the “Becoming” author also revealed that his daughters were the main reason he would never run for office. This is because he does not want to put the spotlight on his daughters again.
