Madonna appears to be attacking ex-husband Sean Penn multiple times in her new song “Confessions II,” about a movie star threatened by fame.
The Grammy winner doesn’t specifically name actors in her song “Bizarre,” which is scheduled to be released Friday, but she gushes about the Hollywood heartthrob whose “perfect award” is “bright blue eyes.”
“He drove too fast/Shelby Cobra, it wasn’t supposed to last,” she sings, alluding to the sports car she is rumored to have given Penn when they married in 1985.
Additionally, Penn auctioned off a Shelby Mustang at the 2018 J/P Haiti Relief Society gala.
“You lay out the carpet for us, but you won’t share it/You’ll be intimidated by me, you won’t admit it,” Madonna, 67, sings in the song.
“The little things you did made me want you / The fire was so strong.”
Madonna goes on to describe love as “weird” and sings, “I feel so empty now that you’re gone/Why do you tempt me?”
“I know you hate me for leaving you/A thousand reasons why you can’t have me/The idea of being with you is so vile,” she continues.
Representatives for the “Like a Virgin” singer and Penn could not be reached for comment.
Penn and Madonna had a tumultuous marriage from 1985 to 1989. The “Material Girl” songstress first filed for divorce from Penn in 1987.
Interviewing Mr. E! News in 2022, the hitmaker admitted that “marriage” wasn’t the best idea.
However, the former lovers have remained friendly over the years, with Madonna calling the Mystic River star a “caring and caring person” even after she was forced to deny the abuse allegations.
In 2015, when Penn was accused by Lee Daniels of abusing women, she said in a sworn statement that, “While we have certainly had a few heated arguments…Sean has never hit me, ‘tied me up’ or physically assaulted me.”
The following year, Daniel and Penn settled a $10 million defamation lawsuit brought by Penn, with Daniel apologizing for the damaging allegations.
Additionally, Madonna and Penn reignited romance rumors in 2016 when they were spotted holding hands at the Help Haiti Home gala ahead of the Golden Globes.
Madonna was also married to Guy Ritchie from 2000 to 2008, with whom she has children Rocco Ritchie (25) and David Banda (20).
She is also the mother of 29-year-old daughter Lourdes Leon with ex Carlos Leon. The pop icon went on to adopt daughter Chifundo “Mercy” James, 20, in 2009, and twins Stella and Estelle, 13, in 2017.
