“Chicago PD” star LaRoyce Hawkins is leaving the long-running NBC drama, sources have confirmed to Variety.
Hawkins has been with the show since its inception in the role of Officer Kevin Atwater, but will be leaving the show during the upcoming 14th season. Exactly how his character will exit the series is being kept secret, but sources say it will happen early in the season. Hawkins also plays Atwater in various crossovers with NBC’s other One Chicago shows.
In addition to his work on “Chicago PD,” Hawkins has also appeared in series such as “Ironheart” for Disney+ and Marvel, as well as “Power Book IV: Force” and “Ballers.”
NBC had all three of its “One Chicago” shows (“Chicago PD,” “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago Med”) renewed earlier this year. This will make Chicago Fire season 15, Chicago PD season 14, and Chicago Med season 12. All three shows are scheduled to return on October 7 for the 2026-2027 broadcast season.
All three shows remain highly rated in NBC’s primetime lineup even after their late start. They continue to anchor NBC’s Wednesday night schedule, airing back-to-back. On March 4, NBC aired another “One Chicago” crossover event, resulting in season-high total viewership for all three shows.
“Chicago PD” stars Jason Beghe, Patrick John Flueger, Marina Squerciati, Benjamin Levy Aguilar, Amy Morton, and Arienne Mandy. Produced by Universal Television in association with Wolf Entertainment. Dick Wolf, Peter Jankowski and Anastasia Paglisi will serve as executive producers, with Gwen Sigan, Chad Saxton, Rebecca McGill, Gavin Harris and Beghe serving as executive producers.
Deadline first reported Hawkins’ departure.
