Lily Allen has fiercely defended her West End Girl tour after fans claimed they felt “cheated”.
A disgruntled fan expressed his disgust at Allen’s performance on X Monday, writing: “Lily Allen at the O2: no support act. Arrived on stage at 9.10pm. All finished by 10pm. Not a word to the audience. £86 to sit in God’s seat.”
The “Smile” singer then fired back at the disgruntled commenter, tweeting: “There will be support acts. The show has always been advertised as ‘Lily Allen playing a West End girl.'”
“I was a few minutes late because my tights were in a ladder shape and I had to change them,” Allen continued.
“The show is just over an hour because it’s just the whole album. It’s an artistic choice on my part not to talk to the audience. The fourth wall helps with storytelling. Most people find it effective.”
She concluded her reply with: “I don’t want anyone to feel cheated. Everyone on this tour is working really hard to give people the best show they can, and I’m very proud of that.”
After Allen’s applause, a fan explained, “Let me be clear, this is definitely being framed in a negative way (my fault). The performance was great, but there’s no way it’s right to charge that much for an hour late on a Sunday night.”
The fan criticism came after the “West End Girl” singer, 41, performed at The O2 in London on Saturday and Sunday.
The tour is based on Allen’s 45-minute fifth album and is being billed as a night to “see the singer-songwriter perform his latest album in its entirety, in the order the songs appear on the record.”
Since its release in October, the album has received a lot of attention as it addresses Allen’s split from David Harbour, which took place in February 2025.
In several songs on the album, released eight months after their breakup, she accuses him of cheating.
In response to the accusations against him, the “Stranger Things” star told Variety in June simply that “the story is complicated.”
Since then, Allen became romantically involved with writer Jonah Freud. The two were spotted together in Paris earlier this year.
