“Elle,” a new Amazon Prime original series and prequel to “Legally Blonde,” premieres today, July 1st.
Set in 1995, Elle follows the iconic characters as they “encounter troublesome friendships, forbidden romances, and questionable fashion choices” as high school students who have just moved from Bel Air to Seattle, Washington.
Newcomer Lexi Minnetree will play the role of Elle Woods, originally played by Reese Witherspoon in the 2001 film. Minetree won the role after recording her own version of Elle’s Harvard audition tape.
Ahead of today’s series premiere, Amazon has already renewed “Elle” for season two.

Recurring cast members include Jessica Belkin, Logan Shroyer, Amy Peets, Lisa Yamada, David Burtka, Brad Harder, and Kayla Maisonet. James Van Der Beek played Dean Wilson in his final television appearance posthumously.
